I'm a bit disappointed to learn this lot is back on the market.
I can't decide ...
If I'm a coward -- or just lazy.
I'd totally forgotten having applied with the U.S. Census last summer. Then, I got a call the other day offering me a p/t job as an 'enumerator' -- aka a census taker. The $15/hr. salary sounds great, but deep down I'm loathe to go knocking on strangers' doors. Thanks, but no thanks.

For Miss Beth's friendship. (At least one good thing from my short gig at the funeral home!)
I visited her church again this morning and marveled at the music ministry.
Five (count'em!) guitarists, plus drums and keyboards!
I was kind of tempted to patronize the church's SouperBowl scholarship fundraiser …..
Isn't this a great idea?
….. but we decided to visit GRITS café, instead.
This rib-eye omelet was huge!
Yep, I said "was." I ate the whole thing. (*groan*)
Good to know …..
We won't be getting any more uninvited 4-legged guests!

Oh my goodness! …..
What a surprise hearing my ophthalmologist say I've got scarring on both eyes -- which will probably require surgery. I was planning to ask for glasses anyway, to complement my contacts … not take the place of.
Anyway, he made me promise not to wear contacts for six weeks and they'll check me again the first part of March.
As crazy as it might seem ...
I'm looking forward to getting the glasses. I hated having to pay the absurd amount of $. But!
He said they're going to try and get me in to an eye surgeon before the glasses' 90-day warranty is up.
Meanwhile …..
These girls can always make me smile.
I think Grace is saying,

Yikes on the eyes! About contacts on how they can scar an eye, weird, but I have heard it before--I think my own eye dr. has mentioned it.

Honestly, I don't care so much either -- just hope it's a good game; and, I won't have to scream at the TV if anyone dares to take a knee.

ReplyDeleteRegarding working for the census people. Herod conducted the first census many years ago. When he discovered there were so many people in his kingdom he got frightened out of his census.
I remember years ago when in politics knocking on many doors asking people whether they would vote for us. I knocked at a door and a young lady opened it and she was completely naked. She stood there totally nude smiling as she said, "What can I do for you?"
I was honest ... I said, "I forgot!" and ran away.

ReplyDeleteCall me naïve, but I'm not so worried about my eyes. I won't be putting money on the outcome, but doc said some cases of laser surgery restore folks' eyesight to 20/20. Wouldn't that be a miracle?
DeleteYeah, I'd turn down the census job for that same reason. Any eye problem is scary to me. Even the cataract surgery we had,'skeered' me. Love the dog caption. LOL Imma tell you I gotta have that omelet.

Ya, I remember when Sherry had that procedure done in Tarpon Springs; those doctors are world-renowned. Normally I like my eggs over-easy, but I'm reluctant to lick my plate in public. LOL.

Thanks so much, Sue. I feel the same way; in fact, I'm reluctant to open my own door if I don't know who's knocking -- or why. Shortly after we moved here the doorbell rang at 10PM-- a young black man on the other side. His car had broken down and he asked to use the phone to call his mom. He said he knocked on several doors but no-one would answer.
DeleteAh, heck! Sorry to hear about your eyes! Are your contacts hard or semi-rigid? I wore the semi kind and even they could cause scarring. Do please keep us posted! That omelette looks delicious!

Ya, I can't bring myself to say anything positive about the half-time 'performance'(?). I think my friend said the congregation numbers 600-700 -- they have 3 services every Sunday morning!

ReplyDeleteis the scarring from contacts? or from cataract removal? bob and I both had it from cataract removals. I am still waiting on my 562 dollars for lens only glasses, 19 days now.. I hope you have better luck than I am.
your girls made me smile too... I recorded the puppy bowl and we will watch it tonight maybe. bob has the super bowl recorded. he is to call me when the half time comes on.
The doc said he really has no idea what might have caused the scarring. I think the upcoming surgery is for cataract removal as well. Or maybe, one will take care of the other? Wish I'd had the presence of mind to ask more questions.

I'm wondering what caused the scarring on your eyes. Long (looong) ago I had scarring and eye damage from wearing hard contact lenses.

Did you have to do anything in particular to heal your eyes? Thankfully, when we were looking at this property our realtor assured us the adjoining lot was NOT zoned commercial.
DeleteNo, I didn't have to do anything special to heal my eyes, but I wasn't allowed to wear contacts for several months.
DeleteWhen I wore contacts again, they were the new (back then) gas permeable lenses, which were softer and allowed air to flow into the lens.
Seems like there is never a dull moment in your life. One thing after another. Hoping your eyes appreciate the rest from contacts and you won't need surgery. I've got to go get a check up. My eyes are bad and I have cataracts. A friend of mine had that surgery and does see 20/20 now and don't need glasses anymore. That would be great. I wouldn't like doing any door to door canvasing these days either, people are so unpredictable you'd never know what you might run into. Glad the fence is finsh and doing a good job of keeping unwanted visitors out. Nice you enjoyed the music at your friends church. It's a big part of our services too. I love the songs that send us on our way clapping our hands.

DeleteToo many meanies in the world to go door to door! I would love to sit at home and call people. Years ago my friends hubby was a Honda mechanic for a local dealer and she had a new baby so they hired her to make callbacks to makes sure the buyer was pleased with their new car purchase. She loved it.Ideally I would love a tea shop. I also have so much LuLaRoe that I would like to own a store where I could sell my gently used pieces. I've tried at Poshmark and ebay. I am not giving away perfectly great clothing! UGH although ebay is not quite as bad as PM. We rooted for the Chiefs! Happy they won! Love the new fence. I Need one to block the annoying dog that moved in behind us. Very anti-social! Praying for good healing with your eyes. I miss my contacts but I do love my glasses these days. Oh that omelette. I"d be eating that for two more meals hahahaha! Love seeing your posts. HUGS

DeleteI don't blame you for not wanting to go door-to-door for the census. (Or anything else, for that matter.) When we first moved down here, I was the neighborhood softie for a while. Once I agreed to solicit donations for one charity, all the others apparently got the word. It got to where I was collecting for so many charities, I think some of the neighbors began to suspect I was some kind of scam artist. Not sure if any of them rolled their eyes at me when they opened their doors, but I decided the charities (and I) would be better off if someone else took over.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your eyes. Hopefully, the scarring will self-heal if you stop wearing your contacts for a while. If you're getting surgery to get rid of cataracts, I highly recommend it.
Souper Bowl sounds like a nifty idea. I might've been tempted. I didn't care who won the game, but it sure was a good one. Seeing the Chiefs come from behind me showed how much heart they have. I think they deserved to win.
I suspect those charitable organizations all belong to the same union. (*smile*) Having the gumption to say 'no' isn't easy!
