Good morning!
Before doing hitting the road, I'm sharing a few glimpses of life on (watery) Chapman Road.
We began Friday with what I thought would be a quick trip to Montgomery for my monthly B-12 injection. Because the waiting room was packed I had to wait nearly an hour. Then, because I forgot to turn off my phone, I became an unwelcome center of attention.
Some months ago I downloaded the WFLA weather alert app. But the cute-sy sound selections weren't doing it for me. What would wake me from a sound sleep? A civil defense siren. Ya, that's the ticket!
I hadn't filtered all the settings, so (of course) it went off while I was waiting.
Oh man, you should've seen the faces. When I hastened to say, "It's just my weather app", one lady looked like she was ready to bolt: "What does it say?" Another, "Well, that would sure wake you up."
We'd not visited an estate sale in ages, but spotted signs for a nearby sale … I felt the familiar tug.
Like my auld lang syne cup/bowl, this is so not me.
Yet I was inexplicably drawn -- maybe because it matches the window treatments in the dining room. $2, mine!
On the other hand, this adorable 'bean pot' is totally me. $2? Welcome home!
Friday night we met my funeral-home friend for supper at nearby Mexican restaurant. I was dying to ask, but didn't dare. Nevertheless, Beth opened: "They still haven't replaced you." I feel sorry for her, because (she said) the stress is awful, but she's not yet eligible for Social Security.
Thank y'all so much for your thoughts and prayers for safety! About Noon on Saturday I finished prepping the bathroom/shelter and we began to monitor television coverage.
Poor Tom. He still struggles to adapt to these weather patterns. Then, the meteorologist said Alabama leads the nation in tornado-related fatalities (per capita). If given the chance, I think he'd move back to Arizona in a heartbeat.
Thank goodness, we only experienced angry winds and rainfall. Tom was horrified to see where our flag mount was bent and twisted. It could have been so much worse.
One of my Bible-study ladies made me laugh out loud.
To protect her kids, Sally's granddaughter put them in the tub and stuck a big pot on Myla's head!
That expression on her face. I can't even!
Then, there's the life-long Southerner:
"When there's a tornado watch, but you're ready."

In a little while we'll drop the girls at 'camp' then drive up to Birmingham. I'm still carrying around a Cheesecake Factory gift card that's burning a hole in my pocketbook.

Glad you weathered that storm relatively well Myra with minimal to no lasting damage. I had to laugh at your loud notice on the weather app. I have ADOT here on my phone. Scares me every time with their alerts lol. So loud and intrusive. Use that gift card! Treat yourself when you are out and about. Praying for travel safety and good results for Tom.

ReplyDeleteI wish I had been there when the siren went off, I am laughing now and it would have been hilarious.. I always enlarge photos and go through them before I read, when I got to the kids in the tub I wondered if there was something you had not shared with us..have fun with the giftcard...
Later, I was telling Tom about the weather alert and started laughing so hard I could hardly get the story out.

DeleteAfter surviving the EF 5 tornado, mark my words, we will never move back to Tuscaloosa or the south for that matter. I am so over that weather' give me the cold so I can freeze to death and not being buried alive, just saying. ((grin))

True! Were it not for my son and his family nearby, I'd reconsider. But never EVER Arizona again.

Having been raised in Southern California, I never knew other places had such ROTTEN weather. Missouri, Texas, and Tennessee gave me a reality check.
OMG - - I have an EXACT set (four) of the bean pot that you purchased. They belonged to my parents and I still use them.

DeleteI'm not a fan of bowls full of beans, either. I'm thinking of chili, soup, rice, hot cereal...let your imagination be your guide. I've used them for mashed-up yams with brown sugar and cinnamon.

DeleteI love your ruby slippers and your finds at the estate sale. Glad you are safe from the latest storms. I don't have anywhere tp gp but my bathroom too. Although I think I'd line my tub with pillows. We do have rare toreros in Ohio, but usually that is in the spring. However with this roller coaster weather we're having they said 2 did touch down in southern Ohio on Saturday. Not close by but still my landing at the airport was a rough go and we all clapped and cheered the captain when we landed safely.

ReplyDeleteGlad there was no REAL damage, but ype the pole woulda irked me. But can be FIXED much easier than roof.
I know the weather guys want to make an impression, but sometimes the scare is worse. BUT but, tornadoes are not to be smiled at that is for danged sure.
Oh, I bet the phone made for several good stories from the ones bored waiting. LOL

My parents used to have a set of those bean pots...they used them for french onion soup and they were perfect! I hate when my phone spouts off...there are SO MANY times I forget to turn off my ringer - HA! Good to know I am not the only one causing disruptions!!! Have a great week!

The weather has been weird everywhere. I am sorry you have to deal with this. I love the pot on the lil ones head. My former LuLaRoe lady/friend Hayley lives in Opelika. She posted some stories too. Hannah is watching the snow fall. Go figure, it's near Buffalo. I love your little bean pot but I love oatmeal too so probably that would be a great choice. My kids Jeremy and Noelle love french onion soup so there you go!You find great things at Estate Sales. I

I'm glad you fared well with the storms. Scary stuff, huh? But I can just imagine how agitated everyone got when your civil defense alarm went off on your phone. Too funny! I don't have (or want) a cellphone, but if I had one, I'd definitely have that same kinda alert. That... and the best ring tone ever. A guy I know has... "one ringy-dingy... two ringy-dingy... etc. Hilarious!
