My Grown-up Bucket List ..... etc.

It's no secret, I'm all about fresh starts:
New Years Day … Mondays … heck, even the wonder of a sunrise.

But.  If you look close enough, even a field of new-fallen snow is bound to contain a few yellow spots.

Pretty sure it was Rick who changed his 'Bucket List' to read, 'Things I Really Want to do List.'
There, too, I first heard of something called a Vision Board.

After learning a few of you have also created Vision Boards (aka, Dream Boards), I wanted in.

It still felt like resolutions.  Plus, all those cut-outs and sticky paste. Yuk. I'd just about talked myself out of it, then happened on a website featuring do-it-yourself cyber Dream Boards.

Because it looked relatively simple -- and free, I signed up with one called Dreamitalive.com.

There's plenty of intentional phrasing to be had, sure. But I most like -- and can relate to -- visualizations.

Props to Martha Jane for the phrase about resolve!

On the down side, if you want to edit/adorn your 'board' that's all fee-based.  No worries. I saved my visuals to a collage at PicMonkey.  Now, I'm debating whether to have this made into a 5"x7" tile or card stock that won't get shoved aside and forgotten by St. Patrick's Day.

In other news ...
I've an unexpected favorite!

Last month 'Santa son' and family gifted me a weighted blanket. However, given (that) I'm a restless, thrash-about sleeper who hates being too warm, I was reluctant to try it.

Finally, we experienced a spell of cold weather a few days ago. Now or never!

After I wrestled its 18 lbs. onto the bed and crawled underneath, that was the first sound sleep I've enjoyed in years. Not every night, no. But my constant shifting to alleviate my hip pain has just about disappeared.

So, the girls conned me into taking them out at 3:28 this morning. Normally, I'd suck it up and put on the coffee.  Nuh-uh!  Four hours later I opened my eyes.  All cocooned, the word 'safe' popped into my mind. (Where that came from I've no idea. But I'm owning it.)  Now I can see why son, who suffers from PTSD, and DIL take theirs along when they travel.

I'm a believer!
And that said, I believe it's time for a glass of wine!

Enjoy your Friday … stay safe out there!

Hugs, Myra

  1. I saw those blankets at Sam's Club and almost got one for Joe. I throw the covers off halfway through the night but Joe burrows and cocoons and would sleep well under all that weight, I think. Thanks for the review!

    1. I'm anxious to hear if you get one, Terri! I didn't realize the variety of sizes and weights. Mine is a 60"x70", 18 lbs.

  2. I'll have to look into those weighted blankets; I've heard of them, but haven't had the privilege of trying one out. Anything to get a good night's sleep :) (though I am sleeping better these days :)

How cool with your vision board. So I'm thinking you want to save money, take a road trip in Alabama, continue to be part of your Bible study group, write your story, lose weight, organize and be kind? Sounds all doable!! Let us know how it is going with it!

    1. Wow. I'm flattered how you studied my vision board. Sad to say, most of these I used to practice regularly. 'Not sure where I went wrong, lol.

  3. So you really recommend the weighted blankets - I have heard of them. Where do you get them?

    1. Ya, I do! Not sure where mine came from, but I'd start with Amazon.

  4. I've long given up on resolutions and bucket lists. A vision board would really unnerve me. I don't want tangible evidence to remind me what I should do.
I file all of my to-dos safely in the back of my mind - where they occasionally pop up to annoy me.

If that makes sense I'll be surprised.

I've never heard of a weighted blanket - which paranoid people (like myself) might consider to be similar to a straight jacket.
But it's important to be warm and cozy when you sleep.

    1. … Except in summer, when the a raft on the Arctic Ocean sounds appealing. I hope you're not paranoid -- because I drew the same analogy! :)

  5. It's good to have a "to do" list or bucket list. Personally I like to cycle with dolphins. Not swim, but cycle. If we humans can learn to swim I don't see why those lazy dolphins can't learn to cycle.

Also, it's good to write your own story. Not to publish it widely; but for personal use of one's children. I have written my life story explaining to future generations about life back then. How we were so poor that we could not afford many essentials. We used to tie a hedgehog to a piece of wood and use it as a toilet brush. Our house was so small that even the mice were hunch-backed. And it was so damp we had a permanent rainbow in the kitchen. The toilet door did not have a lock. I used to sit on the throne with my leg stretched out forwards against the door. Unfortunately, I forgot it opened outwards. Life was different back then, Mevely. Not many people know that.

    God bless.

  6. Thanks so much, Myra, for featuring the phrase I wrote on your vision board - what an honor!!! You are way too kind, my friend.
And I'm glad to hear that new blanket is working for you so well. Nothing like a good night's sleep, is there? Maybe, we need to try one of those . . .
    Blessings!

    1. Thank you, Martha, for the inspiration. More often than not, I glean more from your and Victor's posts than I do at Sunday services.

  7. I'm not sure about that blanket-grin. It's good to have a Bucket List-that's what I have and mark things off when I get to things. Have a great Friday, Myra. smiles

    1. I make daily lists, too. And sometimes, I begin with "Make List" ... right away I've got something to check off. :)

  8. I checked on the blankets before I commented. there are lap blankets in all sizes. I might get one of the 36 X 48 for Bob to put on his legs, he suffers summer and winter with cold hurting his legs. poor circulation. he could use it on the sofa or on the bottom of his legs. I keep a heavy blanket for him to use on his legs since I don't use a blanket at all unless it is really cold. it sounds kind of like the thunder shirts for dogs, that make them feel safe.. thanks for the info.
print the vision board as a photo and put it with magnets on the fridge. some of the TOPS ladies recently did vision boards for their fridges. right now my vision is to get through the first couple of months of dealing with a new HMO for the two of us... it gets more hectic each day...

    1. Great idea about the fridge door! I didn't realize these blankets came in differing sizes; perhaps that's something Tom would consider.

  9. Okay, I live under a rock. Never heard of the weighted blanket. now I will search the Item. I did enjoy the read, as always love the way you do it. At times I do a "Things to do" list. I have a folder of: Places to visit and places to eat but I forget to check them out until I update my filing cabinet.
I toss and turn, maybe... and yep that CCCOLD hit down here also and Sherry put the electric blankets on HIGH. Glad the blanket worked for you!
    Love ya

    1. Great minds! Based on Sean's columns, sometime last year I began a list of towns and places to eat ... and now I've no idea what I did with it. Guess there's no time like the present to start all over again.

  10. Congerats on your dream board. Unlike you I don't have any pictures on mine but do like yours. I'm hoping to keep motivated as my sits in fromt of me each morning when I dit down to the computer. I've heard only good things about those weighted blankets. Supposed to be good for kids and babies too. A good nights sleep is so important ! I use a memory foam pad on my bed to help with the hip ache. It works!

    1. Near my computer is a great idea for my Vision Board; perhaps more so than the refrigerator door. I only say that because I last week I searched high and low for an appointment card … that was found hanging by a magnet on the front of the refrigerator. LOL!
Thanks for the tip about a memory foam pad!

  11. Your vision board is a great idea. I hope it works to help you achieve the results you want. (I'm afraid if I posted a chart of things I wanted or should do, I'd end up ignoring it...)

I've been intrigued by the idea of the weighted blanket. I love the feeling of weight, but not so much the heat that usually comes with it. One of the afghans I made is huge and fairly heavy. It feels good to snuggle under it, but halfway through the night, it's gotta go!

    Have a super weekend.

  13. I got my daughter a weighted blanket for Christmas and she loves it. I can't imagine liking one...I hate even the pinned down feeling of the dog laying on top of the covers beside me, but if it helps you sleep and get rid of your hip pain, I may just have to try one.

  14. I'm with Rick. I don't have a bucket list, but I have an infinite list of things I'd like to do. It never seems to get shorter, but I'm so grateful I find so many things so interesting.
