..... the party's over.
… and just in time! To borrow a phrase, I've been gaining weight faster than a month in pajamas.
I'm so enjoying everyone's accounts of their holidays. Ours was decidedly low-key, but super enjoyable.
… if you don't count Macie Ann's unexpected dysentery on Christmas eve-Eve.
Scrubbing snippets and bits all about the house (pre-coffee) while Johnny Mathis sings, "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" is not my idea of waking to the wonder.
But then. That sweet face.
I ordered another smoked brisket from a little 'hole in the wall' butchery in old Wetumpka -- right behind this abandoned gas station (above). They even cut it in half so we could freeze ours and still have plenty to bring to my son's.
Grandson-in-law Josh had to be back at work (North Carolina) Thursday morning, so he and Sarah had to get up early Christmas morning and drive home. Halfway between their church and ours, they chose a Waffle House to snack and swap stories.
Hey, it's all good … unless you count the black mold décor dripping down the outside of the building.
(Graphic strategically placed to hide my stomach!)
Candlelight services were lovely. Even a few chuckles were had. Pastor wrote on her FB page, "When 'church baby' Kennedy comes up to the pulpit during message saying, 'Passer Janet', what does a pastor do? Well, pick up that baby and include her to bring the message of another baby."
Tom and I elected not to exchange gifts again this year in favor of buying something for the house down the road. Even son and Lois have had to scale back, which is fine with me. With their busy schedules and her parents and their (elderly-sometimes incontinent) animals living there, I did throw caution to the wind and got them a Rumba.
In addition to the brisket, Lois had prepared a big turkey and gravy, cornbread dressing, green bean casserole, and sweet potato pie. And I was asked to bring another pan of my green chili cornbread. (Not counting the pan I made for Team #3 at the V.A., I think this is the 5th batch!)

One of the Bible study gals gifted everyone homemade coconut oil/hemp cream.
Who'd guess? In just a week it's made a BIG difference in my shoulder pain and mobility. |
Oh, speaking of the V.A. We're still in a waiting pattern. The doctor's nurse (UAB Birmingham) did call Monday to acknowledge receipt of his records. They're just working to coordinate a same-day consult with both the cardiologist and the valve clinic.
The not-knowing and having to make last-minute reservations at a kennel is doing a number on my nerves. I know there's no use in worrying, but still. Say a prayer, if you will?
Let's talk again soon.
Meanwhile, you know the drill ... be safe!
Hugs, Myra

Rest assured I am praying for you and for Tom, for good health, happiness, hope, and dogs that do not cause you more cleaning up.
ReplyDeleteIt's good that you all met up as a family. Although I'll admit to not knowing what horehound drops are. I hope it is not what my imagination thinks!!!!!
Keep smiling and keep safe, Mevely.
God bless you and your family always.
Hmmm... that name does make one wonder. I recall the lozenges having a peculiar, bittersweet taste we used for sore throats.
DeleteYou are both in my daily prayers. Count on them! I would love the recipe for that coconut oil & hemp cream! Does she sell it, by chance? Glad you had a nice Christmas. Ours was quiet but special. Happy New Year, Myra!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the prayers, Terri! Happy New Year to you, as well!
Deleteprayers on the way. sounds like you had a wonderful holiday. i think i need some of that hemp and coconut oil. im in constant pain and can't find anything to take the edge off.
ReplyDeleteDespite several surgeries, my g'friend also suffers from chronic pain. Yet, she's found real relief from the CBD cream she found out on Amazon.
DeleteThere was a guy in Prescott that I knew that "swore" about the benefits of CBD. He would have seminars about it at the local mall. Son may (or may not) (does) use CBD cream for certain aches and claims it is a "miracle."
ReplyDeleteRest assured, I said this before, there is concern about Tom and his condition but there isn't an urgency. Otherwise, I'm sure the bureaucracy would be moving and moving fast, but in the meantime, I'll pray for resolution which I think is what you and Tom both want.
I think there is a class (or two) in seminary school about how to preach even in the midst of the impossible like kids going up to the pulpit, etc. I have known of pastors that preached through heart attacks and ambulance runs of members in the audience.
My next blog will be about our Christmas celebration; like yours, it was low key. We haven't exchanged gifts in years and I'm okay with that :)
Happy New Year!
betty
Thank you (again) for your reassurances. It means a lot, Betty. Ya, I was holding my breath, but pastor didn't skip a beat!
DeleteOkay, you really had me laughing while I visualized Macie Ann's dysentery while Johnny Mathis is singing Christmas songs....
ReplyDelete....and the strategically placed graphic to hide your stomach. It's gotten to the point where I look my best at a distance of fifty yards - in a heavy fog. (*sigh*).
I'm glad you had a pleasant Christmas - and I like the idea of no gifts, or at least not putting an emphasis on elaborate gift-giving.
It must be very stressful having to deal with all of the V.A. stuff....especially the waiting. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Tom.
I'm SO glad I gave you something to laugh about! I know I bring a lot of stress on myself (overthinking) ... sure would enjoy a cigarette about now. )
Deletei nearly fell out of the rocker laughing when I went throught the slide show of photos before reading and reached the merry Christmas sign on your middle. still laughing as i type. I did manage to read through the post and tell Macie so sorry she was sick.. hope she is ok... dogs first ha ha.. prayers the VA ting will happen soon and go well. i would stress to the max about the kennel. big smile on Pastor Janet and Kennedy. kids are so funny...
ReplyDeleteabout the cocoanut cream. I read the words, skipped over the 2nd line completely. it read
One of the Bible study gals gifted everyone homemade coconut. My brain was framing the comment that i wanted the recipe when I got the part about it helping your shoulder and went back to read what it really said... SENIOR MOMENT
I agree -- dogs first! Ya, we gave her (unflavored) Pedialyte and rice. The next day she was back to her sassy self.
DeleteI will definitely be keeping Tom and you in prayer, Myra!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Christmas holiday round-up. Just love your quirky sense of humor as you describe all the events that took place, even the not so fun ones like unexpected doggy dysentery! Eww! And that photo of your pastor with the little one? Priceless!
Blessings, my friend!
Aw, thanks! Ya gotta laugh or cry … and I much prefer laughing.
DeleteLawd, you have me laughing over "Macie Ann's unexpected dysentery on Christmas eve-Eve" and hiding behind the sign, gosh, are we related or what? LOL
ReplyDeleteKeeping you both in prayer, smiles.
Soul-sista! Hugs!
DeleteSounds delightful Myra. Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you and Jilda!
DeleteSomehow my comment did not make it this morning. I came back to say I forgot to mention I thought the 'Pastor Janet' aragraph neat.
ReplyDeleteI loved the family pictures especially the little guy with you three girls. ;-) Lovely group really. Food looked good for sure'
Love ya,
Sherry & jack
Thanks, Sherry and Jack! You had me for a second there at 'little' guy. Ya, I'm blonde; sometimes it takes me a minute. Ha!
DeleteSaying a prayer.
ReplyDeleteThe meal sounds so delicious.
That plate is adorable and the rub sounds great too. Enjoyed all of your photos.
