Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day

Our hostess Terri is in the hospital today, having had her first knee replacement this morning.
Hi Terri!

Nevertheless ... to commemorate Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day, she's invited us to share a little about a special pet in our lives who is no longer with us: "Let's do this with love and hope, rather than sadness and tears."

* * *

Oh man, Terri.  I don't know how to complete this assignment without ugly-crying.  It's been more than 6 years, but my heart still aches for Caraleigh, gone too soon.

Because she's been featured in several previous posts. I don't know what to add, but to share a favorite photo (or two).
Other than my son, I can say in all honesty, Caraleigh was the best thing that's ever happened to me.
When she 'graduated' from doggie day care (to accompany me to Arizona) the staff all signed this card. Her expression in this Polaroid still cracks me up.

'Sean of the South' recently shared a thought that spiraled right to my heart:
"I wish everyone could be frozen inside a living photograph of their happiest moment."
(Isn't that so cool?)

Without over analyzing things, my moment looks like this:

December. My fur baby (aka, co-pilot) is dressed in her little London Fog trench coat. The radio is playing our song: "I guess you'd say, what can make me feel this way? My girl! Talking 'bout my girl … Cara!"

Life is a gift … it doesn't last very long.
But no. No. They can't take that away from me.

***

Whew!
OK. To recap my week so far?

I totally take back what I said about loving my new Google Pixel phone.  Granted, the voice-to-camera prompt is a small convenience. But given the cost of the phone -- plus the fact I'm 'wrong-handed' to press the shutter -- I expected Verizon would make things right.

I was totally dreading last Thursday's call to Tier 1, then Tier 2 tech support. But both ladies were incredibly nice and super helpful. Ultimately, Tier 2 was able to resolve the, "OK, Google. Take a picture" feature.

But not before getting my permission to 'get inside the phone' with me!  Awkward, when she commented, "Your home is beautiful." (Oops! Why didn't I pick up Tom's dirty shirt hanging from the back of the bar stool?) Then, "Oh, your doggies are so cute!" Thinking to myself, "'Sooo glad I don't have to use the potty!"

So the phone worked perfectly ... for 48 hours. Round #2 today. New tech team (of course). And come to find out, because this is a Google app glitch, the phone doesn't qualify for warranty replacement. *Sigh* I'll probably check out getting a selfie stick. Do any of you have one; and do you like it?

Great news from Tom's cardiologist this morning! His valve doesn't warrant surgery at this time, but they'll keep an eye on him every 6 months.

Cautiously optimistic -- I had a call this afternoon from a professional office where I interviewed. They'd like me to come back for a second interview (with a different manager) day after tomorrow.
Fingers crossed and prayers said!

Happy Wednesday … stay safe!
Hugs, Myra

  2. Praying for Tom and for you most sincerely.

I'll have to check this new "voice-to-camera" cell-phone. You mean you tell it what photos to take and it takes them? Great news!!! I can stay at home with a Guinness and send the cell-phone-camera to all the stupid trips like the zoo, the seaside or countryside walks, the country park and such. Let the phone go and take the photos instead. Oh ... and weddings ... I hate having to go to weddings and take stupid photos of people smiling.

Good luck with the job interview. Remember; be confident. You are better than you think you are.

    God bless.

  4. you are so right about the expression on Caras face in the photo. made me laugh. I don't know how I missed today is Rainbow day. I have seen it on 6 different blogs and somehow I did not know about it.
I googled the pixel phone and wow, at those prices it should cook your breakfast. ha ha.. so what is it not doing? saying it is a problem with and app is nonsense to me. what about re installing the app, on a new phone there has to be something. my mind is racing.

    1. The second (senior) tech called Google; presumably, they're not aware but are required to document the complaint. THEN I went to Reddit.com and discovered 7 other folks are having the same issue. Geeze.

  5. This new 'stuff' confuses the daylights out ofme. It is AMAZING.
Best of luck on the interview. Yep you reminded me of my dog Ace's passing I was in the 8th grade and it is like yesterday. I am thinking of him as I refinish some furniture I built when he was around.
Love, and the BEST TOM and the latest news. That type of FIX is much better later if ever.

  6. I'm sorry you're not happy with your Pixel, i love mine. Haven't tried the voice command to take a picture yet, but I'll check it out.

Your Cara looks like a little angel.

    1. Oh, I hope yours doesn't mess up! I used to be able to say, "Hey Google, take a picture." The phone would respond, "Opening app", then begin a 3-2-1 countdown and shutter release. It still says, "Opening app" but that's it.

  7. Oh I'm hoping this post goes through to you today, I hate it when I cannot comment. I've had several loving pets go over the rainbow bridge and can only hope they are in a much happier place free from the ills the took them away. They don't live long enough. Their lives are much shorter than ours and that is heartbreaking. Glad optismism is in line for Tom. And hope the interview finds you with a new job. I'm still happy I don't go to work. Not tht the extra money wouldn't be appreciated, but I appreciate my free time more.

  8. Don't you just hate it when a phone, that costs an obscene amount of money, doesn't work properly!? I have a love/hate relationship with mine but it was too expensive to just give up on it! LoL Good news about your Mister! Praying for him. I just can't post about the pet that touched our lives the most. My heart still hurts from his passing 15 years ago. Your Rainbow Baby is precious and I know you miss her.

    Grace & Peace,
    Pam

  9. Oh dear, there is a phone app that allows you to tell your phone "take a photo"? So much new stuff. Did you read the book "The Art of Racing in the Rain", there are lots of very sad moments in it that caused me to cry, but it gets inside the head of its narrator, a dog.

    1. Oh yes … I LOVED that book. Not so sure I want to see the movie; usually films fail (IMO) to live up to the written word.

  10. I'm so glad to hear the good news about Tom. That's a big relief!

I don't know a thing about Google Pixel phones. Truth to tell, I don't even know what a pixel is. What I do know is that life was much easier before the advent of cell phones.

Caraleigh was absolutely adorable and I can only imagine how much you miss her.
Don't get me started on deceased pets....we'll both be crying.

My cat Scruffy died last October and I still haven't gotten over it.
And I'm still enraged that when I called the vet's office and said it was an emergency, they informed me that the vet couldn't see Scruffy for TWO more days. I knew it would be too late...

It isn't often, but there are times when words fail me.
At least the warm memories can't be taken from us.

    1. I well remember when you lost Scruffy. Trust me, I've more regrets about Cara than there are tears in the sea. You're right. Warm memories are all ours, forevermore.

  13. Yeah...I can't talk about my fur babies without ugly crying, either. My boys were my best pets ever and I miss them every day.

Congrats on your job call back! I will definitely be praying the second interview goes well and you wow the socks off of them!

  14. Yea good news about Tom not needing surgery! Let's hope he'll never need it (but its not that complicated of a surgery and look at Mick Jagger he had a valve replaced and he's back to performing and performed to a sold out concert here last Monday night at the State Farm Stadium.

Sending up a prayer for your interview!! You go girl!

I still haven't read that book you gave me about a dog's purpose and I still can't see any dog related movies and we are going into 5 years in December.

We had the best dogs for us and life is different without them here.

Hearing thunder and enjoying electrifying lightening but so far no rain! No monsoons the month of August here!

  15. Such a sweet little pup, no wonder you still miss her, Myra. Sorry, but I don't understand the first thing about what you were describing regarding your phone, but at least the folks you spoke with were nice, even though they saw much more than you (or I) would ever want them to. And that's great news about Tom!!! Will keep you both in my prayers.
Good luck with the 2nd interview!

  17. Glad to hear that there's no immediate need for Tom's surgery. yes, we all have beloved pets in our minds and hearts and thank you for sharing memories of Cara even though it's tough. I have an iPhone and admittedly don't know how to use even an iota of all the things it can do, so you are not alone in being confused by features. Hope it all gets sorted out.

  18. We've lost so many pets over the years, and each of them has taken a small piece of my heart with them. I had a chihuahua/toy manchester mix when I was a your girl. (I based Cuervo in my book "Hot Flashes" on her.) She was my refuge, and if my father was on a rampage, huddling with her somehow made it feel better. During one of his rampages, he lashed out at the dog, and she took off. I was leaving for vacation with my cousin and her family the next day, and when I left, she still hadn't returned. When I got back home a couple weeks later, my parents were out, but the screen was up in the kitchen doorway, which told me Dixie was home! (But not in the kitchen, the little stinker... somehow, she managed to escape.) Anyhow, that moment ranks as one of the best I've ever experienced with a pet. As soon as I saw that screen, I started bawling. I started calling her name as I ran through the house. I found her sleeping on my bed. Best feeling ever!

Sorry about your problems with your phone. I don't have that problem. All MY phone does is sit on my desk, and it does that job fabulously. It's a Princess phone... :)
