Good morning!
The other day Jack shared an entertaining post of (his) likes and dislikes (click to read) … prompting me to do the same thing.
'Pretty sure most of you know I'm not fond of all things 'bling', roses, fruit, and Tupperware lids. But these? These are just random, mostly recent thoughts. Perhaps something will resonate with you, as well? Or, you'll share some of your own?
Like Jack, I'll begin with the 'cons' and end on a smiley note.
I couldn't ask for nicer 'church folk.' But I wish they'd stop asking, "Where's Tom?" on Sunday mornings. I'm running out of excuses and I don't want to say, he just doesn't 'get' it.

When motorists sit (and sit), waiting for a break to turn left onto a busy boulevard … all the while holding up the rest of us. Just turn right and turn around, already!

Writing cursive H's and W's.
I've been trying since 3rd grade and still can't make them look pretty.

Coming home and discovering your shirt's tag has been sticking out all day. I wish clothing manufacturers would put them somewhere else -- like a side seam or the hem of a blouse.

Doing 25 mph in a school zone then realizing, if I were to touch my brakes that ****** school bus is going to be sitting in my back seat.
So many reasons to smile this week! Here's a sampling:
Familiar smiles and 'good morning' from fellow walkers/joggers at Village Green. Even the inmates who come tend the grounds!

The aroma of green tomatoes frying at Tuesday morning's Farmers Market.

Wait staff, greeting a group of elderly ladies: "How are you Miss Marie?" "Hey, Miss Gloria, I didn't see you come in."

The young produce stocker at Food Outlet who always speaks and asks, "What are you going to make?"
***
Saying, "fussing" (vs. arguing)
I'd never heard that before!
We're off in a bit to a friend's BBQ. I really shouldn't love food as much as I do. Ha!

I can't understand why you don't like Tupperware lids. Without them all the stuff would fall out of the boxes.
ReplyDeleteOver here we have to drive at 20mph near a school. Cars can't go that slow with modern engines. I drive with the handbrakes on. You should see the smoke behind me as I go. Keeps other cars away!
If it wasn't for shirt tags I wouldn't know how to spell my name. I still have my name written on all my clothes in case I have to fill a form, or someone asks my name.
I hate finishing a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle and finding a piece missing. In fact, just finished a puzzle right now and I have an extra piece. Is it one of yours?

DeleteTupperware (and faux Tupperware) is annoying because the dish water collects in those ridges and it's the dickens to dry.
I like your list, a good idea for a post. That is a cute bear and his sign. Saying fussing instead of arguing is a nice one.

I'm thinking of my favorite Oscar Wilde quote:
"I don't want to go to heaven. None of my friends are there."
I know what you mean about shirt tags - but I often cut them out of the shirt if they're too annoying.
Speaking of tags -
I once wore a new pair of jeans when I went grocery shopping and didn't know that I forgot to take the label off.
I had a HUGE cardboard "Levi" tag on my ass.
I wondered why everyone was looking at me.
I've never had fried green tomatoes and don't think I'd like them. Are they any good?
Oh, that's funny! What I wouldn't give to be able to 'sleep in.' If the sun was up before I opened my eyes, I'd be afraid the dogs had died in their sleep.
DeleteI'm not big on any tomatoes, and never tried the fried green ones until last September. We splurged for our anniversary dinner where the restaurant is heralded for its f.g.t. appetizer served with lump crab meat. Oh my goodness, Jon. So many tomatoes, so little time! :) Yes, they're wonderful.
Yes, they should stop asking about Tom. When I attended church Mark was never with me either because he doesn't get it!! You are right about the H's & W's, I usually print them and then continue in cursive. If I would have seen you I would have told you about your tag. I almost always tell people about their tag being out. Enjoy your BBQ the weekend.

DeleteMy parents were always fussing and I had forgotten that word until I read it. I say bickering, not sure where I picked that up.. living for 35 years with a damn yankee maybe. In Florida people from the North are yankees, the ones who come and stay are damn Yankees, learned that at my grandmothers knee... when people at church used to ask me where Bob was, I gave them all the same answer every time they asked. I just said 'home'. I never thought about it until now, my H and W look like printed ones, can't tell the difference. my favorite thing you shared today is the waitstaff talking the the seniors. made me want to say "well bless their hearts" another phrase from my Savannah upbringing. great post. at our flea market, early am the smell I love is the great big sausages they have on the grill with onions. mouth watering. I wish I was close to you and could go to church with you and we could both say HOME in unison.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't that be funny? I loved eavesdropping on those elderly ladies soft voices and SOUTHERN accents. Didn't look, but I wouldn't have been surprised to see them all wearing pearls. :)
DeleteOh my goodness, I agree about the left turns! It is always faster to go right and do a U-turn down the way. Why don't they get it? Yum to that BBQ!! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your vote! Go figure, I'm married to "that" guy who'd rather sit for 5 minutes then make a dash. Tom's getting better, but it still drives me nuts.
DeleteYum on the BBQ! Ask your pastor how to answer the question about where Tom is. Maybe she'll be insightful to work it into a sermon down the line or have a witty comeback you can use. I think you are safe with not having to use cursive H's and W's as it seems like no one is teaching cursive these days. I have never had fried green tomatoes. They sound yummy though! I've notice school buses zipping down our street at faster than 25. What's up with that?

You're right … I giggled! There's this stubborn little something inside me that says, "Keep practicing."
DeleteSon Jack who is a courier and I were just talking about the LEFT turn folks who just cannot see the logic of the right turn and git r done. Tom is at church, at present His church. People mean well, but yep some things do get tiresome.

Thanks for concurring! In our case, I think it's the camaraderie we enjoy most about the church; not so much the service itself.
DeleteOnce as punishment from a teacher - I had to write thousands of z's because mine were so bad. And my name now has a z in it - ironic.

DeleteConvenient, I get. But, besides the drying challenge, I dislike not being able to get rid of spaghetti (etc.) stains. (Maybe, on account they're just faux Tupperware.)
This is a fun post. The thing with drivers holding up a whole chain drives me nuts, to.. LOL about the tupperware. I have the disposable kind and couldn't do without it.
