Outside my window
Spring is in the air.
And with it, Macie Ann's enduring love lust for the wee lizards.
I'm feeling
Nostalgic … and a wee bit foolish.
One of my favorite memories dates back to '57:
Each afternoon while crossing the North Atlantic, Cunard stewards would settle us on deck lounges, cover us with heavy blankets and bring around bowls of hot bouillon … to settle tummies or ease sore throats.

Since that time, that's been a favorite, comforting beverage on chilly nights.
Well, imagine my distress a few months ago when I realized the low-sodium version was no-where to be found. Of course, then I wanted it even more!
Of course, no. It hasn't been discontinued. Not until I paid $20 for two little bottles on Amazon, did I learn Target routinely carries it.
Is there a certain food/beverage product from your childhood that still brings you 'warm fuzzies'?
I've decided
The "Y" and I should part ways.
The aquacize class has become incredibly boring; and more often than not, after the fact, I wind up perched atop the heating pad.
Makes me smile
Speaking of heating pads!
I thought this was such a clever idea … no more greasy, stinky fingers.
Then I realized it bears a striking resemblance to another personal hygiene product.
Ouch! Can you imagine getting these mixed up?
I'm thankful
For the young lady at Food Outlet who - when, for example, I ask for $20 cash back - always asks what denominations I prefer.
(I'm not sure why, but $20 bills are annoying - ha!)
In the kitchen
I like oatmeal, and I love peanut butter ... but I never thought about turning them into frozen pops!
Mine aren't as pretty as Sandra's, but practice makes perfect!

Per our insurance company, the folks at Serve Pro delivered these Friday. Someone was out to check them this morning and said, "another 3-5 days." Between the noise and the hot air, 'grumpy old grits' is practically beside himself.
Looking forward to
Celebrating Tom's 77th birthday day after tomorrow. Don't know how much 'celebrating' we'll do; rather, enjoy a nice dinner at Long Horn steakhouse. DIL's birthday was yesterday, but she had outpatient surgery on Friday, and I suspect the last thing she's wanting to do is be out and about.
I can't wait to hear about your weekend!

I bought Silk Almond milk last night and had a bowl of cereal with it. I was miserable. I couldn't digest milk as a kid or now! I like peanut butter too with my oatmeal. Have to try Sandra's recipe. I miss going to the Rec Center. Hope you find a better routine to suit you!

Deletedon't know how I lost half of my comment; I think I hit delete or something, but was going to also say that I like getting more bills back than a $20. You give a $20 to your child and you aren't getting any change back, but if you give them a $5 you get to keep $15 so its a win-win situation.

DeleteThat's a great photo of Macie Ann checking out the lizard. I was really surprised to see lizards here in Tennessee. For some dumb reason, I thought they were only in the western states.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that Wyler's had low-sodium bouillon cubes. I always use a few beef cubes when I make homemade soup (along with the canned broth).
I love peanut butter - but I only sorta like oatmeal. Together? Frozen?? Hmmm. Maybe it's worth a try....
I tried the NO-sodium bouillon which tasted worse that dirty dishwater. (Not that I've ever tried that, but still.) Tom hates oatmeal, but enjoys these faux-cookies.

DeleteHappy Birthday to poor grumpy old grits. he he he… the noise would drive me insane, any noise outside does, like neighbors mowing grass or bob using the blower... I have been using the oatmeal pops for my evening meal on a day I don't have oatmeal for breakfast. glad you tried them. my mother should have owned stock in Wylers. there was always, always a jar of it in her cabinet. I can't stand the stuff, she loved it. she sipped it in a cup, like some do tea. OMW on the incorrect use of icy hot. Macie looks adorable, that is what our Jake did, he loved chasing them. Big doesn't even act like he sees them. I am surprised you can remember something from 1957, you had to have been very young
ReplyDeleteSo far the noise doesn't bother me; Tom just takes his hearing aids out! Like your mom, I enjoy sipping mine like hot tea … chicken or beef. (PS, I was 7 y/o on that trip.)

DeleteGosh I'd not realized there was s shortage of Wylers. Now I'll have to check out Target. My mom always made us poached eggs on toast when we had upset tummies or were receiving from an illness and today it's still f favorite of mine. Glad things are drying out there, but I know it cannot be easy. Happy Birthday to Tom. Enjoy the steakhouse! In a couple of weeks it'll be my birthday, but I prefer Red Lobster! Thanks, Pam! I think the 'shortage' only applies to the low-sodium version; at least, here in Alabama. Poached eggs on toast sounds really good … and comforting, somehow.

DeleteHaHaHa lizards! Suzanne in Texas has no geckos in her yard because her mini doxie Dora is a fierce killer of such critters. But she brings them to Suzanne as a gift! we had sushi on SONday, I know it is not your favorite but that is what I use to think. You have to get stuff from a great place.My mom made us milk toast and rice with warm milk when we weren't feeling well. I love DOTerra Deep Blue Rub for our aches and pains. OUtback (rollon) Pain Relief for foot pain. I think it helps so much!I still like Camphor Phenique for mosquito bites that mom used when I was a kid.I better sign off, or I will talk all day. DeleteWe saw a lot of family over the weekend. Funerals down south are like family reunions. We know the one in the casket understands. Elmer would have been in the middle laughing and finding what every one had been up to.
ReplyDeleteI love to sip bullion. I must admit that growing up milk or any variety was my drink. Variety I mean Buttermilk, chocolate or sweet milk. At grandpas, his well was just off the back porch, I could not get enough of that cool well water.
I have never mixed oats and p-nut butter, don't know why? I would have loved a ship at 7, it had to be exciting!
I thought Tom was s kid, Shucks I ain't but 3 yrs older than the dude! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE BIG GUY!
