A Foodie Medley

Say what?
It's National Frozen Yogurt Day!

If you're interested in learning more -- including 4 DIY recipes -- please visit Terri, right HERE.

Now, let's talk about food!

* * *

Frozen Yogurt Day!  A cold dessert on what must be a very cold day for most of you reading this today!
Actually, no.  It's prematurely warm in these parts.  (Insert sad face.)
Do you enjoy frozen yogurt?
If you're talking about the soft serve, yes!!!
Does it matter what the weather is?
I'm afraid so.  I'm a seasonal eater, so frozen foods/beverages don't  sound appealing until June rolls around.
Share with us your favorite flavor and/or topping!
No toppings, but I'll fight you for a peanut butter cone!

What food do you know you shouldn't eat but can't help yourself?
Speaking of peanut butter …..
Years ago I brought my jar of JIF on board a cruise.  One of my hubby's colleagues was delighted and asked, "Might I have a taste of your peanut paste?"  (They were from Australia.)

If you life was a meal, what kind of meal would it be?
Oh man, I can't decide!
It's a toss-up between an ordinary-but-comforting, pot-roast stew and this Hatch chili enchilada casserole.

… a little sweet, somewhat smoky, more than a little spicy.

Do you like spicy food?  (Why or why not?)  What is the spiciest food you have ever eaten?
Having grown up in New Mexico, yes.  I adore spicy food.
The rudest food I've tasted, however, goes to jalapenos.   In my opinion they stun rather than enhance.

Because Terri has been sidelined with a bad cold, she asks:  What food do you eat or crave when you have a bad cold?

Nothing does the trick like matzo ball chicken soup.  Just thinking about that served at Lucky Dill in Palm Harbor is making my mouth water!

Please tell us something about your week!
Last Thursday at first light I dropped Tom at the airport … dashed home and changed the bedding, cleaned the bath, etc.
When my BF Debbie arrived a few hours later, yes.  Our 5-day food fest began in earnest. :)

First on the agenda was supper at Mellow Mushroom (win-win!).   Unfortunately, the next day's steak and eggs at WindCreek Casino were a huge disappointment.  (Don't you hate it when someone asks how you enjoyed the meal? - Then, when you tell them they act like they don't even care?!)

Debbie had never been to a casino before!  I'm not especially fond of gaming, but she had a ball.

I was super excited to try Chicken Salad Chick.  12 - count 'em - different varieties of chicken salad!!!  While my choice (Lauryn's Lemon Basil) was delicious, I'd definitely enjoy it more in the summer months.

Of course, a visit to Jackson Lake Island and the old movie set was a must!

Concerned what to feed their resident goat population, I assured the caretaker my box of whole wheat crackers was unsalted.  He just laughed and laughed and said they'd 'ravage' us for whatever we had to share.

Due to Debbie's limited mobility, her inability to walk very far or do stairs, our tourism options were few ... but we more than made up for it by yakking and chortling for hours on end -- even ridiculing each other's food choices.

Ironic!  She and I are practically polar opposites; and haven't in all the years, actually spent that much one-on-one time together.   Never having had a sister or a nearby friend in so many years, I've grown accustomed to living a solitary-but-happy lifestyle with Y'ALL here in Blogville.  Tom's a dear, but it's different, you know?

Anywho!  Debbie left yesterday and a few hours later Tom's plane arrived.  (The dogs are so confused!)  Not to push the envelope, but I want to check-out costs for a pet-friendly VRBO near St. Pete or Sarasota later this year.

It's all good .. but I've missed you!
As ever, thanks for visiting … be safe!

Hugs,
Myra

  1. What can I say but this is a great read. We once took a cruise and the main thing I remember was the yogurt soft serve.LOL
Sherry somehow got a jar of 'Honey roasted P-nut Butter', we love it but can't find any more and we are down to the absolute bottom!

Ah what a great 'write/read' about the visit. Friends are the best! We are fortunate to have one of Sherry's classmates and some old friends within 50 yards here in the RV Park.
Now try to just enjoy Brother Tom, he missed you!
Love from (not so wild) Wildwood,

  2. It is great that you spent a lot of good time with your friend. It seems the weather has been good and warm for you.

Have you tried peanut butter sandwich with sultanas or raisins?

    God bless.

    1. Oh, dear! I can think of few foodstuffs I dislike more than raisins! Evil, I tell you! Actually, the only way I like PB is refrigerated, straight up on a frozen spoon.

    2. Ooops ... sorry. I got the idea from Colombo. Do you remember the TV detective? He spread peanut butter on a slice of bread, then carefully lined the raisins one by one in straight lines all across the bread. Then covered it with another slice. I do the same but also use sultanas, or sometimes banana slices.

      God bless.

  3. I'm glad you and your friend had such a good time together. It looks like those goats were having a blast, too. :)

Hmmm, if my life were a meal, I reckon it'd be an all-you-can-eat buffet with a little bit of everything on it. Some stuff, I might not like, but there's always something there to enjoy.

Have you tried any of the peanut butters with honey? YUM! I used to eat nothing but Jif, but ever since I tried Skippy's peanut butter with honey, I can't get enough of it!

Spicy food? YES! Especially Thai food...

On a totally unrelated matter, I do believe it's time to rustle up some lunch. For some reason, my rude stomach is growling. :)

    1. An all-you-can-eat buffer? What a super response! I've not tried that PB w/ honey, but I'm ready and willing! :)

  4. I am so jealous, that you and Debbie were together without me being in the threesome. I bet the dogs were really blown away with all the ins and outs of daddy and debby and you two going out so much. their routine was broken. I love peanut butter and I have it every day, either for breakfast or dinner. I love crunchy best but smooth is fine to. I eat smuckers natural that has to be stirred up and put in fridge, but I love Jif to... bob eats a LOT of Jif. no salt saltines and Jif is what I fill the cabinet with for hurricane supplies. I want to see that movie set, I can tell I would love it. ha ha on the goats, I do know they will eat the shirt off our backs if we let them. they eat any and everything

    1. Believe you me, you were thought about! Have you seen Big Fish? I think it was a Tim Burton 2003 release.
Now I'm feeling foolish for worrying about the goats' sodium content!

  6. When you freeze yogurt it destroys all of the "beneficial" bacteria that lurks in it - rendering it risk-free and, essentially, useless.
I prefer the bacteria-infested unfrozen variety.
    BUT
I love frozen yogurt cookie sandwiches.

"Does it matter what the weather is?"
Hell, no. I'll eat frozen yogurt cookie sandwiches in the rain, under an umbrella.

What would my life be if it was a meal??
It would be a Junk Food Festival, ending with some type of lethal food poisoning.

    Do I like spicy food?
I'm from Southern California and also lived in Texas. I LOVE all kinds of spicy food, but I completely agree with you that jalapenos stun rather than enhance.

I don't like any kinds of food when I have a bad cold, because colds impair my sense of taste. When I have a cold I like hot tea spiked with Southern Comfort and honey.

    What?
    They have casinos in Alabama???

    1. Try as I might, I've never been able to stomach 'real' yogurt ... but when my son was young he used to choose that over candy every time. Then I once TRIED Southern Comfort … and promptly spit it out. Sorry, some things one can't forget.

  8. I'm so glad you got to spend time with your friend and it looks like y'all had a great time! That solitary thing seems to be becoming more and more the norm...particularly for the younger generations. They don't take their eyes off their phones long enough to talk to each other.

    1. Good point, Stacy. Considering how painfully shy I used to be - always waiting for someone else to make the first move - I'd probably be just like them.

  9. Yummy with most of the food you ate with your friend's visit! I'm with you; I don't like cold food during cold months, even the best of soft serve yogurt!

Glad Tom got back safely; hope he enjoyed his trip and seeing his new great grandchild!

  11. I do love yogurt but don't think I've had the frozen kind. So nice you and your friend had such great quality time. The say that opposites do attract each other and that comes with friends too. I love peanut butter anything and have it often. A snack or sandwich or cookies will do the trick. Glad your Tom is home safely too. Hope you enjoy what's left of this week. Time does fly by when you are having fun!

    1. Ain't that the truth? I think the key to Debbie's and my friendship is our refusal to discuss politics and/or religion. Yes, so glad to have Tom home safe and sound.
