Gooood morning, friends!
Come on along, what you say we join Terri and friends for some hump-day posers?
Wednesday, January 16 is National Do Nothing Day! National Nothing Day was proposed in 1972 by columnist Harold Pullman Coffin. This day has been observed annually since 1973. Of course, the way to celebrate it is to do nothing!
To commemorate Do Nothing Day in SOME way, tell us something about your life in 1973.
Ah, my Dark Ages.
I was 23 years old ….. working at a small CPA office ….. watching Linda Blair's head rotate in The Exorcist, singing along to Big Bad Leroy Brown (with vigor) … when my husband left me for the babysitter, taking my little son with them.
Now that we are thinking back, please tell us what your favorite past-time was as a child.
I had one or two good friends, but most of the time I spent in solo pursuits - reading and daydreaming of one day living on a big old horse ranch with 6-7 children. (I'd even fill notebooks with proposed names and cute children's pictures from the Sears catalogue!)
What is the best way to cheer you up on a bad day?
Wow. I don't think I've had a bad day since I left The Legacy!
But if a bad day should come around again? Please bring me a glass of wine and listen patiently while I rant. TYVM!
How old were you when you first started dating? Do you remember your first date?
Indeed I do! Gordon and I were both 16; I think we went to the movies. Years later, I'm still puzzled what 'cutie he' saw in me!
Feeling so blessed that we're still in communication … and he still makes me laugh!
Today is also National Fig Newton day. Do you like figs/Fig Newtons?
I've not had one since mother used to pack them in my lunch bag. I don't dislike them, but probably wouldn't cross a room to have one again.
Tell us something random about your week:
I got such a case of the giggles yesterday morning!
Tom: "How's your shoulder?"
Me: "OK, how'd your hand?"
Tom: "Meh. How's your hip?"
Me: "Pass the Aleve. How's your back?"
In a twisted kind of way, it's nice having someone to ask. Momma's no longer around, but I get that same warm feeling.
Because I don't like to be a whiny cat, I've not talked about my back/hip acting out these past few months. Following yesterday's doctor visit, I've scripts for x-rays. Crazy. For the first time in decades, I've begun walking and swimming regularly -- resulting in having to apply copious amounts of Arnicare gel and vying for time on the heating pad.
Heck, things could always be worse!
I'm going to take a cue from these cuties.
Life is good!
Typical chilly morning: Grace and Macie observing National Do Nothing Day.
However y'all chose to celebrate, I hope you enjoy your today. Stay safe!
Hugs,
Myra

the only way I eat fignewtons, or did before TOPS was if someone was serving them and there was nothing else. I have never refused anything with sugar it in but would never buy fig newtons.
ReplyDeleteI did not answer the 1973 thing on another blog because it was so depressing, that was my bad time to.
I did not have a real date until I was 18 and made the mistake of marrying him because he asked, and thus the 1973 horrors.
the conversation was funny, the back hip is not. my question is, are you walking the outside or walking on treadmill. I am banned from treadmills because I have arthritis in back and hips. I can walk on the ground but not a treadmill. glad you are getting xrays, that is how I found out about my pain. exercise taught by a therapist and walking out doors fixed mine. hope yours is simply that
Good morning! No treadmill here; there's a cute park nearby. Because my right hip is lower than the left I used to get regular chiropractic fixes, but can't anymore on account of the osteoporosis. I'm hoping this is simply sciatica.
DeleteHoping the x-rays come out okay. Its good though that you are getting the exercise. I'm hoping that you did get your son back from your then husband? Haven't had a fig newton in ages. About once every 10 years is about how much I can take of them, LOL.
ReplyDeletebetty
Ours was a process, Betty. Given the shortcomings of both his parents, Troy became an amazing man ... proof (in our case) that good genes skip generations.
DeleteSee? I just cannot imagine you having physical problems. Hope there is an APP for that. (I am trying to smile)
ReplyDeleteI don't like or dislike fig newtons. I do eat them if they are around. I have never eaten a fig, but Sherry likes them. I know I have had bad times, but things are so good, I cannot remember them. I always, ALWAYS get a kick out of your posts.
Love from a cool Florida
Sherry & jack
Aw, thanks! It's not so awful; I'm just unaccustomed to my body aging faster than my mind. LOL! Happy birthday again!
DeletePraying for you and your husband, Mevely. May your pains easy as they go away altogether. Wishing you both well, my friend.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you always.
Thank you so much! I believe there's sure power in prayer!
DeleteI remember the jingle, "Darn tootin, I love fig newtons!" And I do, love fig newtons!
ReplyDeleteHmmm … maybe I should give them another try!
DeleteOh my goodness yes! The aches and pains. My hip is hurting for some reason really bad. I am taking Aleve for it too. I loved your answers! Have a nice week!
ReplyDeletehttps://lorisbusylife.blogspot.com/
Thanks, Lori! I was surprised when my doctor told me to ditch the Aleve; it's supposed to be bad for our kidneys. (Instead, Tylenol Arthritis 3x/day.)
DeleteIt's ironic that National Do Nothing Day was devised by somebody named Coffin.
ReplyDeleteFavorite childhood pastimes:
reading, drawing, writing, and...yes... lots of daydreaming. I had a fantastic imagination.
1973?
Heck, I wish I were that young again...
Fig Newtons. I like them but never had a love affair with them.
When I lived in Texas I used to steal figs from my neighbor's tree (they hung over in my yard).
When I have a rotten day I can (usually) cheer myself up by listening to opera or reading a book. Keeping busy is the best way for me.
Let's not even talk about aches and pains.....
AHA! I was hoping someone (besides me) would catch the irony about Mr. Coffin! I suspect we share a twisted sense of humor, Jon. Your comments always make me smile.
Deletesorry to hear about your aches and pains. i love fig newtons.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Terre. It's all good.
DeleteFun facts, Myra. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting, Rick!
DeleteSo sorry to hear of all the shared aches and pains, Myra, but you certainly expressed your problems in a humorous way. Such a positive attitude you have! Fig Newtons? Take 'em or leave 'em - never one of my go-to snacks.
ReplyDeleteBlessings to you and to Tom!
Now I'm a bit embarrassed for belly-aching. Perhaps I should implement a 24-hour cooling off period before hitting 'publish'? (*rueful smile*)
DeleteHaving nothing to do is sometimes just wonderful. It lets the imagination fly. There is always something to do every day at my house, however I do often choose to do nothing. My childhood days were full of friends, family and faith, pretty much the same as today. I have some really good memories for the most part and still I'm thankful to be who I am now and wouldn't want to relive those days. I too will add you both to my prayers. Getting older isn't for sissies for sure. I do like fig newtons and figs too. One of my nephews brought a bacon wrapped fig appetizer to share at Thanksgiving and it was delicious. It was unusual and something I'd never thought of pairing up.
ReplyDeletefor got to say this is Pam at mostly known as 'ma'
ReplyDeleteThank you for being such a faithful friend, Pam! I, too, am happy being who I am now; no way I'd want to jump in a time capsule. That bacon-wrapped fig actually sounds delicious!
DeleteOh my gosh...you always make me laugh so much! I love that. And you. A glass of wine is good medicine for whatever ails you. :) That conversation with Tom...LOL I'm sure we've had a few like that here, too. Have a blessed day, Myra!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Stacy! I'm trying to take a holiday from the wine, but man it's hard! Love you right back! :)
ReplyDeletePlaying outside with my friends was my favorite past time as a child. I think I went to the movies on my first date too. Of course it was easy because my dad ran the movie theater and I had my birthday party there. I use to like fig newtons but haven't bought them in year. Hope the doctor can find the results to your hip and back pain.
ReplyDeleteWow, Debby! Your dad being a theater manager, you must have been the most popular girl in school. Very cool!
DeleteGosh, I sure hope the x-rays show something that can be fixed easily. Pain is exhausting!! I'm sorry to be so late getting around to your post but I thank you for joining the Medley yesterday!! Love you, dear friend!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Terri! I went for the first series this morning - fingers crossed! Love you right back!
DeleteYour conversation with your hubby about aches and pains sounds like Smarticus and me on a daily basis. Only it's usually accompanied with a frequent, "WHAT did you say?" HA!
ReplyDeleteAleve is our pain reliever of choice for arthritis, too, but I try to limit it to Saturdays and Sundays, when I know we're going to be more active. (We have a two-person pool tournament every Sunday.) The rest of the week, I suck it up. I don't wanta hear about it causing problems with the kidney, though. I already have kidney disease, and my doctor never said a THING to me about Aleve. (Then again, she's the same one who prescribed another medication that's notorious for causing kidney failure and stomach cancer... I opted to stop taking it, and she said, "That was probably a good decision...") (Gee, thanks, doc...)
Have a super weekend!
I totally forgot about the "WHAT did you say?" - Yep, we resemble that remark! You crazy kids' pool tournaments sound like such fun!
DeleteWoo HOO! My hubby ordered hearing aids today!!!
DeleteOur pool tournaments are always a lot of fun. We're supposed to get our table re-felted next week, so it'll be a whole new playing field after that.
You are so precious to me! I do not seem to get over here enough and you make me smile, laugh out loud, cry, feel joy and all sorts of other wonderful emotions. My mom always had fig newtons. I use to love them. Years ago when we were first married, I bought a package and the taste was not as fresh as when I was a kid. I would not walk across a room for one either! You have the best stuff to say. Always a pleasure to say hey. My dad would always say, (hey) hay is for horses. A favorite memory I have of him. :-) Have a terrific SONday and new week too. HUGS and LOVE
