Amid all the horrifying images from California's wild fires and (continual) political bickering, I think it's fun to engage in a little nonsensical Q & A!
Terri has asked us to complete the following posers:
With the holidays coming, what is the most essential appliance to help you prepare for the celebration?
Our plans are still up in the air … but considering the season, I'll go with our homely-but-trusty oven. I'd be happy to eat most anything Tom prepares on the grill, but I don't know any other way to prepare my mother's famous banana nut bread.
What is your favorite (clean) word?
That would be y'all, y'all!
I'm not sure it's a favorite, but probably the one I use most. At least here in Alabama I'm not kidded about it!
When I hear it, I think of friendly, unpretentious folks … the kind whose smiles meet their eyes.
Are you a good judge of character?
'Wish I could say, 'yes.' Unfortunately, I've been fooled more than a few times, believing someone was genuinely friendly.
What is the last thing you took a picture of? Can you share it with us?
3rd straight day of rain … more in the forecast = unhappy Grace.
November 15 is Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day. How do you intend to celebrate?
Bahahaha! My mind immediately went to this creamy cinnamon-y goodness in the refrigerator door. Anyone have a straw?

Aside from 3 days non-stop rain, I'm coming up empty.
Well, except this public service announcement:
When checking out at Wal-Mart this afternoon, the chatty cashier and I both paused for an audio call. "Was that, 'a fall in Maintenance'?" I asked? No, I think it was, "All to Maintenance."
No-one was waiting behind me, so we began visiting, and I told her it reminded me of the staff codes used at my former workplace -- everything from a Bomb Threat to Fire … guest disturbances to mice. She said Wal-Mart has them too, only they're colors (not numbers). FYI, if you ever hear "Blue" while shopping WM, join me in running to the nearest exit. It means, 'bomb.'

knowingwhat code blue means in my favorite store made this post worth reading. LOL... remember the old blue light sales in kmart? smiling now.
ReplyDeletepoor baby Grace, it is sooo hear to do the pp thing when it is raining. BB has only seen rain for a few minutes in the 8 weeks we have had him, a few sprinkles or rain with booms/flashes and we had to buy a new table. he doesn't like his paws wet. we need rain and hope to get some today or tomorrow. I will have more blog fodder. I am liking the medley questions a lot.. where do you get them? I am almost aways a good judge of character, but have made a few mistakes due to temporary insanity. are you ready for the answer to the most essential appliance for TG? our CAR, we drive to the restaurant to eat. ha ha ha ha.

I think you deserve an award for the best response to "most essential"! I'm really surprised Macie and Grace venture outside in this weather … they totally refused back in Arizona. Then again, in Arizona I didn't warm towels in the dryer every time they'd go. :)

You should check out Pinterest for a the recipe for pumpkin pie pudding shots...has Rum Chata in it. We made them for the bridal dance at my daughter's wedding last year. Yummy way to use it up.

DeleteOh yes, a little humor is badly needed. So sad with all the terribleness of those fires. I've been cleaning leftovers from the freezer. Making room for more. Hopefully leftover turkey. My favorite word and one I use often is thankful. I've got so much to be thankful for. But I do think your word, y'all, is always warm and welcoming. I took pictures of my relish dish and pickles for my post today...and of a November view of my house yesterday. Your sweet Grace is so cute, but I'm sure not happy with all the baths. Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday and a much drier day soon.
ReplyDeleteYour relish dish was a great reminder, Pam! Presently, I keep mine in the bathroom for contact lens and toothpaste. Grace hates being wet, but loves getting swaddled in warm towels after. (Nope, not spoiled a bit!)

ReplyDeleteWith 'nukes' aboard our ship,A code word aboard ship that was considered highly classified was 'Broken Arrow', meaning a 'nuclear accident.' Imagine my shock and surprise when I learned of a movie by the name. LOL I always thought, "wouldn't it be a little late to use it? who would give it and who would hear it? Anyway that was what came to mind. as always, you make this fun.

DeleteI think my word I use a lot is cool. I don't know if cool is even a cool word these days. So many fires in California over the past 2 years. It makes me wonder how much of the state hasn't been burnt yet. So sad.

ReplyDeleteDon't panic - - I was only kidding (maybe). I actually think an oven is an excellent choice. Cakes, pies, holiday cookies, and a big roasted turkey.
Favorite "clean" word? I honestly don't think I have one, but "y'all" is a rational choice.
Am I a good judge of character? I'd like to think so, but I'm not. I got duped and screwed many times by people who I THOUGHT were my friends.
Don't even mention cleaning out a refrigerator. I have old items in mine that are no longer definable.
Next time I'm in Walmart I'm gonna yell "BLUE!" and see what happens....
Oh Jon, you're so bad ... and I love it! Your comment reminds me of a olden boss who'd ask, "Should we throw that away now, or wait 6 months and play 'guess what this used to be?'"

DeleteI am a pretty good judge of character. My favorite word is "babies". being a Gr-ma, I turn into Gr-ma goo when we see one.
ReplyDeleteHearing "blue" is darn scary. On a cruise on the first night, someone said "Mr. Blue is in the dining room." Staff sighed and told me that a man had died.
How sad! Yes, I've heard it said (that) deaths on cruise ships are more common than one might think.

DeleteMy oven has been pretty essential to me for the past 21 years and it finally conked out a few months ago. I think it only needs an igniter, but I haven't done anything with it yet. I probably should get it fixed though since it's just my wife and I here most of the time, we don't get overly elaborate with our meals and I've been getting by pretty well with no oven.
ReplyDeleteRefrigerator is pretty clean though. You can probably extrapolate why from what I said in the previous paragraph.

DeleteThe sun came out today after way too many days of rain. (Georgia now has a surplus of more than a foot over the normal rainfall. Too bad we can't ship some of it out west.) But ya know? Not ONCE has anyone greeted me at the door with a fresh-from-the-dryer warm towel! Your adorable pooch is a teensy bit spoiled, eh? I don't blame you. Why have a pet if you aren't gonna spoil it to pieces?

ReplyDeleteOur refrig. died early Oct. when our daughter came to visit. It took 4 days for the new one to arrive. Adventures in our kitchen!
