1. Security or freedom? Can you have both? Explain.
I wholeheartedly believe we residents of the United States are blessed to enjoy both security and freedom.
(Aside) Despite growing up in what was arguably the safest (non-military) town in the nation, both of my parents were super vigilant. I remember my dad phoning home from his security job each night: "Are the doors locked? Are the windows secure?"

Much to Tom's bemusement, I still carry that philosophy with me!

2. If you could visit any historical American site what would it be?
Even though it's changed dramatically - some say not for the better - I'd like to revisit my hometown.
"Almost normal lives?" This caption cracks me up!
Why?
To quote Lillian Hellman (Pentimento), "I wanted to see what was there for me once, what is there for me now."
3. Free as a bird, free reign, be free of, free enterprise, free trip, walk away scot free, free for all …. what "free" phrase can best be applied to your life in recent days or weeks? Explain.
"Be free of" … I'm still thanking my lucky stars to be free of the stress and unnecessary drama at my former workplace.

5. July 27 is National New Jersey Day. Have you ever visited the Garden State? If so, where did you go? I'm sure my parents probably drove us through New Jersey, but I've no recollections.
Are there diners where you live? No, I don't think so. Have you tried Taylor Pork Roll? Until a few minutes ago, I'd no idea what you were talking about. Thanks, but I'll pass. Do you like to play Monopoly? Not really. Salt Water taffy - yay or nay? That sounds good! How do you feel about shopping at the mall? About as appealing as a root canal. Springsteen, Sinatra or Bon Jovi? You have to pick one. Sinatra!

Does anyone else experience dry eyes/allergies? When we first moved to Alabama I blamed it on the pollen, but my eyes keep growing worse … to the point I'm ready to try Castor oil. Yep, Castor Oil. When my friend cited putting (organic) Castor oil in my eyes I shrunk back like she'd suggested I jump off the rooftop.
Still, there's compelling evidence. Has anyone else tried it?

Thanks, Anne! No, I was born in Minneapolis; my family didn't arrive on 'the Hill' until '52. Funny (true) story -- once a journalist asked a young clerk, "What's going on up there?" Her response was they were manufacturing windshield wipers for submarines!
DeleteA friend of mine recently was prescribed drops for dry eyes and it has some kind of oil in it. Ask your pharmacist. I don't think it requires a script. No on the caster oil. We are blessed to enjoy freedom and security. I too always lock up. Matter of fact it's become a habit to lock the door anytime I come in the house. It is wonderful to be able to leave a stressful job. I love retirement more each day.

ReplyDeleteI don't thnk castor oil should be put in the eyes. I suffer the dry eyes and I buy the tears the eye doctor told me to use, as we age they dry out and need moisture. fish oil by mouth helps also... don't mess about with your eyes, our sight is the most important thing to me... my mother lost her sight and was miserable. rant over
ReplyDeleteI would like to visit your hometown, never have but would like to... will not happen though.. i have become a non traveling person. no blue in my house, it is my least favorite color except of course natures blues like the sky. blue is IN this year, check out all the décor and clothing, all blues. i have never seen a TSA agent and had to look it up to see what one is. refer to the non travel above. LOL
I'd not considered fish oil. 'Can't even wrap my mind around the possibility of losing my sight! You're only the 2nd person I know (besides myself) who dislikes the color blue!
DeleteHope you make it back to visit Los Alamos some day. I would be interested to see how much it has changed in the 20 or so years since we visited there. It was a charming town back then; hope it still is! The girls look like they got into a bit of mischief :) I agree with whatever one said; avoid castor oil for your eyes and check with a pharmacist too; they might be able to give some suggestions for over the counter eye drops. I'll be flying in late August (gasp) so I'll remember to thank a TSA agent (though I usually do try to thank everyone who provides some type of service :)

It's sad, but several of my former classmates say Los Alamos has become a not very nice place to live … so much has changed. Perhaps its better I revisit it through my memories.

DeleteAs usual, I love your answers. No, I would NOT put Castor oil in your eyes. Ask your doctor. Or the pharmacist for a recommendation. Dry eyes are no fun! I've been to Los Alamos in the 1980's. But never to New Jersey.

ReplyDeleteI've heard that castor oil is beneficial for cataracts, but I suspect it's an old wive's tale. Castor oil is very abrasive. I've used it on warts.
I personally would NOT put castor oil in my eyes - or any other kind of oil, either (including fish oil). There are many over-the-counter things for dry eye relief (although many are not very effective).
You very well might have a pollen allergy.

Is Los Alamos close to Santa Fe by chance? I've always wanted to visit Santa Fe. I picked Sinatra too. Yay for us! I haven't experienced dry eyes, but sure hope you can find something to help! Let us know if the castor oil works!!

DeleteI love it when you mention Los Alamos. The name had been brought up a few times, and I like to say, "I know someone who grew up there!" I can almost relate, after living in GITMO for about 4 years, but we weren't under a smidgen of Classification as LA!

ReplyDeleteAs always, I enjoyed your responses. Since I grew up in Maryland, I've been to New Jersey many times and am familiar with all of the Jersey connections for the items mentioned in question #5. And YES! Sinatra all the way. (Heh-heh... "All the Way"...)
ReplyDeleteThe eye drops I have to use every day to treat my glaucoma dry my eyes out something fierce. What helps me is Refresh tears. Worth every penny.

I have all the same problems she did so I am vigilant getting my yearly eye exam. LOve these answers. My friend Loretta, a native of New Mexico is forever prompting her state and its beauty. Dang that girl knows some hot spots that locals try to keep hidden! I love NM! It's my neighbor and I love them. Just like Kansas, Nebraska, Utah and Wyoming! LOve them all for different reasons. ENjoy your travels and get some postcards, I am a colletor of things. I have shot glasses, spoons, postcards t shirts. HAHAHA! I love collecting and will until the end of time. HUGS P.S.
