Happy Friday, y'all! 'Jus stopping by with a couple updates from Chapman Road.
I'm so happy to show off my new-to-me computer nook!
Gotta give a huge whoop(!) to Tom for tackling the ridiculous pile of cords which lay, entwined -- largely ignored -- for the last 4 years. A lesser man would have taken a look, shook his head and walked away. As it was, it took him more than half an hour. I was too humiliated to take a picture.
I'm guessing this desk pre-dates computer technology. That didn't deter him from improvising!
I can blame conditions on the movers ... on our haste to just get everything put in place. Stuff shoved out of sight.
But no. Not until circumstances made it impossible to correct.
But no. Not until circumstances made it impossible to correct.
Not unlike Tom's back.
Almost 4 years now, he's complained of pain. We've tried every patch and salve. Doctors ordered x-rays, CT scans. One even ventured, the pain most likely was originating from scar tissue being stretched from radiation therapy in 2013.
My regular readers may recall when, 6 months ago, Tom fell on his way to the bathroom. I had to call 911. I'm not going to rehash that nightmare, except to say it took an MRI to finally realize what was going on.
At yesterday's follow-up appointment, his surgeon reiterated, Tom was very close to having had a vertebral collapse and being confined to a wheelchair the rest of his days. Dr. Doan kept saying how good he looks and has given him a green light to resume all activities. Within reason, lol.
Now I've got to go online and find him new jeans. With all our heavy outerwear this season, I didn't realize how saggy his jeans have become. A 40-lb. weight loss will do that!
😛
So I got my panties in a bunch the other night.
Unnecessarily, it turns out. Tom didn't mean what he said to sound ungrateful.
I was all set to make another batch of chili. Or soup. I forget.
Holding up his hand, he asked that I stop. Just what crowd I was planning to feed? Oh, and unlike yours truly, he enjoys having a variety of food.
Temporarily mollified, I changed my game plan.
I slow-cooker'd 3-1/2 lbs. of (unseasoned) chicken breasts in low-sodium broth, then shredded the dickens out of them.
Separating into individual portions, most were put in the freezer. No secret, he and I rarely enjoy the same kinds of food.
He doctored his with hard-boiled egg, onion, celery, etc.
... while I took a spicier approach, using SIDS 'Gunpowder', curry and Alabama White Sauce.
Next, I want to try and recreate some of the varieties from Chicken Salad Chick. Love that place, but their prices are a bit, well pricey. (If you're unfamiliar with CSC, you can't read about their offerings here.)
Who all has plans for SuperBowl?
Valentine's?
I'd enjoy hearing about them.
Hugs, Myra

The Super bowl I will most probably ignore, Sherry might have it on. I will be the first time this year the TV would be on.
ReplyDeleteWITHIN REASON? Only men like me 'n Tom would understand that! (Keep an eye on him!)
Love the desk and YES even here in the motor home there is 'spaghetti wires' I try 'unsuccessfully' to hide.
Good for y'all.
Sending Love from a warming Florida (I hope)
Sherry and jack (We like to visit your house)
Keeping an eye on him is a tall order, my friend. LOL! We'll probably have the game on, but neither of us have much interest.
DeleteThe Super Bowl will be ignored here. I have to work until 4:30 anyways. Valentine's Day will also be ignored as well...with the upcoming move, I told him he better not spend another cent, I am fine with that.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the grin. I hope you have a beautiful day friend.
Me, too. Methinks lots of the 'Hallmark holidays' are for rookies.
DeleteWhat a blessing your hubby did all that for you. Mine set my new laptop up for me and that was a great blessing too. Sounds like we both have keepers. lol
ReplyDeleteWe have no plans for the Superbowl (we'll be at church when it starts) nor Valentine's Day. Our 33rd Anniversary is on the 18th and we'll probably do something that day depending on the weather. But I don't know what yet. I'm just thankful we've had this many years together and I hope there will be many more.
Good news on your hubby's recovery. I hope you both have many more healthy years together.
Enjoy your spicy chicken!
Gosh yes! I think a 33rd Anniversary is far more important. Congratulations!
DeleteSo thankful in prayers that Tom is getting better. Praise the Lord.
ReplyDeleteI really love that desk of yours. Looks very solid and heavy.
I must say, I don't like too hot and spicy foods. But chicken, whichever way it is cooked, is delicious. With or without Superbowl. I believe they will televise this over here. We' get quite a lot of US Sports over here like Baseball, Basket Ball and Wrestling.
Keep being happy. It is contagious. It's Valentine every day.
God bless.
"Valentines every day" ... I love that sentiment! Thank you, Victor.
Deletethis just makes me think all over again what a giant sized blessing his fall and 911 call was for him and for you. at first thought it was oh no but the good that has come from it proves it was the warning he needed to do something and also made the doctors take notice. so glad he is better. your desk is beautiful and I know about the mortified of a gazillion of cords and the DUST and grease they collect. I had to do mine all by myself. drag them out disconnet all of them and the battery back up was heavy and filthy. all there since the last time i got a new computer. the good news was once i pulled it all out and desposed of most of it, well its in a box to be recycled, the new one only has a power cord. that is it. YAY...
ReplyDeleteYes. At first, I thought it was The End, then it turned out to be a giant blessing.
DeleteYou can't go wrong adding white bbq sauce to chicken. We have it all the time.
ReplyDeleteI do love some of the salads at Chicken Salad Chick, but others I am not so fond of.
We were late discovering the white sauce, but now it's become a staple in our fridge.
DeleteWe no plans for the Bowl. I could definitely make some chili, cornbread. Your poor husband! Speaking out for yourself is very powerful.
ReplyDeleteChili and cornbread may still make an appearance before Spring arrives.
DeleteI LOVE your desk- it looks great in your computer nook. And I applaud Tom for tackling those catastrophic cords and wires. I've done similar projects in the past, and it can make a grown man cry.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely with you when it comes to spicy food. I like gunpowder in my meals....
No plans for SuperBowl or Valentine's
Thanks, Jon. One day at a time, right?
DeleteYour desk corner looks wonderful, and your hubby sure did a great job setting that all up for you. I know what a job that is. I'm so glad for you both that he is doing so much better! Smart to cook all that chicken ahead and then use it as needed. Great idea. Why didn't I think of that? We are actually going to a "superbowl party" at our church Sunday evening. Our pastor loves football, and so he wanted to have a fellowship for any who want to come to the fellowship hall, bring finger foods, etc. and stay as long as we want. We haven't had Sunday night services since Covid started, and maybe getting people back out again on a Sunday evening might get them back in gear to do that again. Either way, it will be a nice evening of fellowship. I doubt we will stay for the whole game...maybe until half time. No plans for Valentine's Day that I know of. My hubby's birthday is the 16th, and I don't know yet what we are doing about that. I am not really in party/planning mode yet. We shall see what develops. I always enjoy your posts. Thank you for this delightful one. Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea your Pastor had! Wish I might join in y'all's fellowship. I hope you'll blog about it!
DeleteI LOVE CSC! It is pricey.
ReplyDeleteIs Tom on a salt less diet?
My hubs went into Advanced Heart Failure in Nov. We had no idea he had it.
His heart was only working at 10%. Fast forward three months later - his heart is at 20%. He has a pacemaker now and defibrillator. So he is much better.
But he only 1500 salt units a day and 64 ounces of water. He is dying and unhappy without salt. lol
He has lost 30 pounds and needs new clothes.
Glad Tom is doing so well!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh my goodness, Sandie! I had no idea about your hubby. You, too, have been through the wringer. Tom's not adhering to a salt-free diet but has definitely cut back.
DeleteNo plans until I see what Jim & Elaine want to do (or not do). Your desk it really nice, Myra! Cords can be a pain so nice that Tom got them sorted! I just shredded TWO rotisserie chickens from Sam's Club. Used some in soup today and will use more in a casserole for a Sunday potluck at church and planning chicken tacos for Sunday evening - super bowl or movie. Time will tell. Love & hugs!
ReplyDeleteBuying and shredding the rotisserie is great idea! I'm so glad Jim and Elaine will be gathering near. Dear friends are such a blessing!
DeleteSo nice of Tom to tackle those wires for you. My husband seems to love wires and cords and always has then all over the place - it drives me insane so I'm the one that does all the cord tackling around here.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the spicier foods. You might want to use some of that shredded chicken for the chicken pozole recipe I linked to today. I used chicken breasts instead of thighs and I did the spicier version with jalapenos added, it was delicious!
All my kids are coming over for the super bowl so it should be a fun evening.
Have a great weekend! :)
I remember that you enjoy football gatherings with your adult kids. I'll be sure and check out your pozole recipe. Thanks for the recom!
DeleteTom's talent for wiring mirrors Danny's, Myra. That man can bunch and hide cords faster than you can blink your eye! So glad Tom is hanging in there with his history of past back injuries. I know you've probably admonished him to be careful a million times, but I'm adding my voice to the mix here. We need a man like Tom hale and hearty!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, and enjoy the food varieties. No plans for the Super Bowl here.
Yes, I have. (*sigh*) Thank you so much!
DeleteWe are going to friends' house for the Super Bowl, where the men will watch the game and the women will chit chat. All will eat :-)
ReplyDeleteNow that sounds like the recipe for a Good Time!
DeleteI was impressed by your sweet Tom's patience with all those cords. I love your computer nook. You are blessed. We are rooting for Joe Burrow, a man with character is hard to find in the PC NFL and he is a real deal. We usually make dips and have fun watching the game. Monday Jeremy & Brittany are taking Addy to the Nuggets game so we will watch the boys. Tuesday he is taking Brittany onher birthday bash to the casinos (ugh not my cup of tea) we are keeping Blake. Brody attends preschool so he will be with his cousin and her mom. I would rather be with the boys than in a smell casino with so many people- hahahaaa that's me & Avery. So a good day or two seeing the little ones. Tomorrow we see our Chiro doctor. He is also a character. We love seeing him. I liked your answers at Friendly FIll In's you left at my blog. THANKS for the SMILES!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Anne! I don't know that much about either teams' players but now you've prompted me to Google Joe Burrow. Tip the scales, as it were!
DeleteWTG on the weight loss with Tom! What a trooper he was too to work on getting the cords in some sort of order!! It must be hard having 2 different tastes for food in the house, but I think you guys for the most part work it out :)
ReplyDeleteDIL is having a birthday party for the wee one on Sunday (his birthday is the 15th) so will go to that (it is from 12 to 3). Haven't watched any pro sports in a few years when they all became political so no watching the Super Bowl :) We went out tonight to celebrate Valentine's Day. Avoid the crowds :)
betty
Great idea, celebrating Valentines early. We're still reluctant to eat 'out,' but Tom found a couple of pretty rib-eye steaks to grill. The 40# weight loss wasn't intentional, but I'm just grateful he's healthy!
DeleteI'm so thankful for Tom's doing so well that he's helping out with the wires and cords there. What a blessing for sure. I don't think you could go wrong with chicken salad. It's a favorite of mine on croissant rolls. Shredded chicken can be used in so many different ways. I like to keep some on hand and even buy it that way so I can make something new on the menu. I put my recipe for the weekend in my blog post today. It's something I'll enjoy the entire weekend. I'll probably try to catch the half time show and some of the commercials on the super bowl. Football itself doesn't appeal to me. I hope you two have a wonderful weekend and a Happy Valentines Day !
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I always enjoy reading the recipes you share!
DeleteEnjoyed your post and so glad Tom's doctor found the problem and fixed it! My WW leader's husband is a partner/VP at J.M. Exotic foods . . .and they make sure shot sid's. I keep meaning to try it!! I love Chicken Salad Chick! The first one was in Auburn and our son took me there one day and treated me to lunch. I fell in love and was so excited when they started opening everywhere! Have you read her story?
ReplyDeleteNot yet ... but I'm going to!
DeleteHooray on getting the desk wires organized. That is great news on Tom's back and also him loosing 40 pounds! That must be difficult when you don't agree on food. We are going to Adam and Gabby's. Of course we will be seeing James. We will have a different item to eat at each quarter. Needless to say we will be very full after the game! I'm not sure about Valentine's Day. We will probably order something from Doordash. I also have a doctors appointment in the morning.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Debby. I hope your party was great fun and your doctor's visit goes well.
DeleteI'm so glad Tom's back is better! I'm afraid we don't have TV so didn't see the Superbowl. And didn't miss it. 😊
ReplyDeleteMethinks you didn't miss much ... 4 hours of my life I'll never get back. LOL.
