Dear Tennessee Ernie,
I hope you can hear me down here. I just want to say, thank you for the music!
The other day Macie and Grace were super agitated while waiting for their annual veterinary exams. Don't ask me how these old songs randomly pop in my head -- but when I began singing, "16 Tons" they quieted right down. (Huh?!)
A little while later, when Tom left us in the truck for a minute they began carrying on again. I pulled you up on my cell phone -- and right away they sat down side-by-side, mesmerized by your voice.
P.S. - I'm sorry for all the times Young Myra thought you were annoying.
Dear Scotts Auto,
Thank you for always providing honest, reliable service - not even a mile down the road!
What a relief to discover my Camry's transmission isn't dying. Rather, you said the fuel injector had lots of carbon build-up. Whatever that means. I was just delighted I don't have to start car shopping!
Dear Kimberly at the VA -
Wow, girl! You've single-handedly eliminated all most of my reservations about dealing with multiple agencies' red tape. The eye hospital where Tom's slated to have surgery was adament -- they had to have written authorizations -- performed after June 29 -- from both his primary doc and cardiologist.
Thankfully, you were able to schedule the exam and lab work AND fax the results to Birmingham, as required. But! When we learned they also expect us to hand-carry that paperwork with us, I did an eye-roll. (You, too?) Nevertheless, you were happy to provide a copy.
I know the VA's taken a lot of heat the last few years. But you guys set the bar for customer service. Please enjoy the Edible Arrangement I'm sending your way!
Dear Barbara,
Thank you for the necklace you crafted! I don't know, is random gifting a thing in ladies' groups? I sure feel blessed, being at the receiving end of my friends' thoughtfulness.
Looking at some of the little goodies I've been gifted this year -- now I'm wondering how I can step up to the plate!
Finally, to my fellow citizens of Blogland,
Thank you for being you! Your support and comments never grow old ... and well, I think you're better than peanut butter!
Have a great day!
Hugs, Myra

It's so good and refreshing when organisations and individuals do us a good turn and provide excellent service. It certainly makes us feel grateful for such people.
ReplyDeleteOnly the other day I could not take the car to the garage for its scheduled annual maintenance and legal test of its road worthiness. The garage sent someone to pick up the car from my home and return it with all the work done and new signed certificate.
It's also good to have such great Blogging friends like you. Although you did not mention whether it is smooth or crunchy peanut butter. Have you also tried peanut butter and raisins in a sandwich? After you spread the PB on a slice of toast you then place the raisins one by one equidistant from each other in rows like soldiers on parade. Then put another toast on top. Delicious.
God bless.
What a thoughtful mechanic!
DeleteMy bad -- my PB has got to be JIF extra-crunchy. That's an interesting exercise with the raisins. Maybe if my mother taught me to do that I wouldn't loathe them the way I do. (*grin*)
Wow, great customer service from the VA and from the mechanic!! A good honest mechanic is worth their weight in gold! And what a lovely thoughtful gift from your friend!! Certainly a great week you had with so many blessings!
ReplyDeletebetty
I agree! Do y'all have a favorite go-to? If not, I'll send you a PM of a place in Goodyear who, in our opinion come close to walking on water. They once mis-diagnosed something with my Camry -- then when they went to put in the new part (we agreed to) discovered their error and told us ... saving us over $400. We'd have never known the difference!
DeleteI love this post. There are so many people who go out of their way to help us and sometimes it gets lost during interactions with people who are not so helpful!
ReplyDeleteAnd I personally love TEF's voice. I have him on my Spotify playlist.
I am assuming your husband will be having surgery at the Eye Foundation Hospital. Wishing you both well during his procedure.
Thanks, Anne! Funny how my tastes in music have changed since my (obnoxious) teen years. Is the Eye Foundation Hospital the same as Callahan? That's where we're going Thursday.
Deletenow that is the best complient i have ever recieved, when YOU say better than peanut butter, I KNOW you mean it and we are ALL special! God bless that lady at the VA for helping, i hope someone will step up to the plate for bob's surgery and if so I will write a letter too. I am a person who prefers NO gifts. unless of course it is cash or a visa card. I am very odd and do not like gifts. I never have and forget the not the gift the thought. i don't have to store and later toss out the thoughs, just the gifts . when i worked, i was team lead over a group of 21 and each time they went on a vacation they came back with a gift for me.
ReplyDeletea tiny bottle full of sand from mexico
a tiny bottle full of shredded dollars from Vegas
at least 10 key chains with everything from a pair of swim fins haning to Panama city, BAMA BAMA BAMA, Bahamas, Mexico, and i could not count the book marks with names of where they went. The did come through when my mother died and sent a fantastic edible fruit boquet. that one I loved. you know how i remember what the key chains said? they are laying on my desk in plain sight with flash drives on them. did I hear someone say STOP TALKING?
Hahahaha on those 'gifts'! I'm know exactly the kind of stuff you're talking about; at least you were able to make use of the keychains.
DeleteI'm crossing fingers and saying a prayer that Bob's authorizations get done!
I love this post. So much to be thankful for this week! Thank you for being you Myra, you are better than peanut butter too! :)
ReplyDeleteAw, blushing! 🥰
DeleteI second your praise for the VA. Here too, they are doing the best.
ReplyDeleteFunny the Tennessee Ernie singing. A cousin had just sent me a u-tube of the mustached dude, I have enjoyed him for many years, what a solid voice.
And finding the mechanic who you can trust is one of the gems of the day. There are plenty good men out there who are honest and try to be mechanics but end up being parts changers. It is great to KNOW one who KNOWS the job inside and out.
Good post as always
Sherry & jack over in the Carolinas.
Thanks, Sherry and Jack! Sometimes I have to laugh at my tastes in music -- and how much I remember. He's good!
DeleteHA...I am so happy to know I am better than peanut butter, LOLOLOL. The VA goodness must exist in some states, not here in NY, its horrible.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a beautiful day, friend. smiles
Same in Arizona. Tom used to hear horror stories from his friends. Keep smiling your pretty smile!
DeleteMy father had the original Tennessee Ernie recording of "16 Tons" when I was very young (three or four) and he played it quite often.
ReplyDeleteAt that time I thought the song was kind of somber and spooky.
Nowadays whenever I hear it, it keeps repeating in my mind over and over. Perhaps I should sing it to my cats.....?
P.S
I often wondered if I was better than peanut butter.
*Grinning*
DeleteThe original recording. Wow. My dad used to love playing his LP's as well.
Smiling all the way through your post, Myra! Thanks for all the positivity and I know the recipients of your thanks agree!! Have a blessed week! xo
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Terri. I hope yours is, too!
DeleteI loved hearing how the VA came through for Tom and you, Mira. During his administration, President Trump did a lot to grease the wheels, and it seems his influence has stuck with them
ReplyDeleteAnd that's a hoot how your dogs calmed down after hearing the crooning of Tennessee Ernie Ford. Wow! Wonder if that would work on cranky kids (or adults)?
Blessings, my friend!
Yes, I love how President Trump supported our veterans. Sad when they took his portrait down in the lobby (VA) ... I noticed nothing's been hung in its place. 😄
DeleteTo Martha Jane...re: Tennessee Ernie Ford's voice...yes, his voice did work on cranky adults..."Nanny", who you all know I loved, did have her cranky days due to dementia issues. But putting on TEF's smooth deep voice singing Gospel Music always soothed her and put her in a whole different frame of mind. I highly recommend him for cranky adults and kids as well as pups. LOL.
DeleteI 💛 this!
DeleteTo Myra, see my comment above to Martha. Love TEF's music, both gospel music and 16 tons, etc. He used to have a wonderful show on TV too. My daddy sure loved him too. Your post was popping with positivity and enthusiasm! Thank you. And to be considered better than peanut butter, well, you can't hardly top that! I just had a PB&J sandwich for my bedtime snack. Now I'm comfy /not cranky and ready for beddie bye. Always love to visit here.
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks so much! Sweet dreams, dear friend.
DeleteGreat idea for a post! Love this!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lisa!
DeleteLove this post so much. It reminds me to be thankful for the people I meet throughout the week that are kind to me.
ReplyDelete😍
DeleteThe VA has had it
ReplyDeletes ups and down for my friend in Nevada with her husband who is terribly ill with inoperable cancer. somedays are good to get things moving, others she is so frustrated I know she just cried. Having boguht my sweehtheart a eapnut butter cup I decided I needed to have one too. S ended up buying a second one which neither one of us needs. But who knows what tomorrow will bring. My father had a beautiful voice. He would sing many hymns and many c/w songs around the house including Tennessee Ernie Ford. Thanks for the memories.
