G'afternoon, my friends!
Please tell me, I'm not the only one who watched coverage of Prince Philip's funeral this morning?
And, am I the only one who holds her breath at moments like this ... praying no-one stumbles.
Don't get me wrong. I've never been particularly enamoured with he or the Queen. But neither could I escape the tug, watching history play out.
See, as early as 1981 I've been right there: Seated on the floor in a darkened living room, approximately 6" from the television screen. A box of Kleenex in my lap, I leaked tears of joy for a beautiful stranger.
16 years later: Again I sat transfixed ... bawling my already-reddened eyes out for that beautiful stranger.
Unlike the MSM, I don't give a whit about the Brother's Drama. Even the sight of First Born and his Rottweiler couldn't dampen my fascination. (Sorry, Victor.)
There's no question, I love my country. But (I think) the solemn, magnificant pagentry and beauty exhibited by the U.K. is unequalled.
Perhaps the most beautiful woman in the world?

Closer to home .....
Preparation for the big pour (concrete) has begun.
A team was out this week to dismantle the deck -- upsetting not only the chipmunks that lived beneath, but Macie and Grace who've used it as their private jungle gym.
Poor Tom's at a loss to figure how he's going to get the lawn mower out and into the front yard. Oops!

So, I think I've stumbled on an inexpensive hack -- to alleviate my back/hip pain and free up space in the linen closet.
It's painfully obvious (that) my mattress needs replaced. The new fitted sheet looks like someone put a Cadillac cover atop a VW bug. Buying one of those egg crate mattress toppers crossed my mind.
Instead, I took two heavy quilts and the enormous weighted blanket..... lay them atop the mattress and covered the mass with the fitted sheet. It's not the most attractive thing, but it does seem to help.
I'm not due for another DEXA scan until December, but my primary wants to err on the side of caution and is sending me for x-rays. Yesterday she shocked me by saying, "I have to say good-bye." Her family is moving out of state. She confessed to having more than a little trepidation and asked for my prayers.
Oh man. I can't recall ever having loved a doctor like I do Dr. O ... and couldn't help but blurt that out as she was leaving. (Good grief, where did that come from?) But she just called back, "I love you, too."
Why does life have to be so unpredictable?
It means a bunch to know y'all are there ...

Well, I did not watch the royal funeral. I got very caught up in the Diana stuff back in the 80s but haven't cared a whit since then. (I like that word whit!!) Exciting about the patio project getting underway. I lost my doctor of 17 years to a move and was heart-sick about it. Loved her too. So much that I threatened to drive to Miami every three months just to keep her. Ha! She recommended her good friend and that is who I see now. Like her almost as much. Good luck. Keep us posted about that and about your back pain. xo

DeleteSorry Myra, I didn't watch the news coverage today. Looks like lots of work happening there! Last time I needed a new mattress it was delayed for years by getting a memory foam topper - it was heavenly! In fact after we finally bought a new mattress I missed it and still do. Sorry to hear about your doc leaving. That's hard when you have someone you really like or love in this case. I love that you blurted it out and she obviously did too. :)

DeleteI didn't watch the funeral but I felt so bad for the queen when I heard that she would be sitting alone. She has her moments but she has carried out so much of her royal duties with dignity and grace. I rather enjoyed The Crown on Netflix. She became "personable" then though I know some of what was presented was fictional based on real events in her reign. Of course I adore her in that she loves corgis :) I feel for her though losing her husband after so many years together. I wonder if she will slowly decline now, who knows? Kate truly is a class act! Glad she will be the future queen and not Meghan :)

Brilliant with your solution about the mattress. I sometimes wonder how good those My Pillow pillows are as well as other things his company make for sleeping. They are expensive but if they work, who knows?
That is sad news about your doctor leaving. Now you'll have to train a new one, which is never fun I do believe.

I didn't say so, but yes. I think hearts around the world went out to the Queen. I never watched The Crown; do you recommend? Have you ever seen The King's Speech? So much I never realized about her father and her early life.

I do recommend The Crown. I liked seasons 1/2 but really enjoyed seasons 3/4. I have not seen The King's Speech but have heard of it. Should put it on my "to watch" list.

Sorry, I didn't watch the proceedings today either. I was baking cookies and listening to the rain on the roof, and hubby was watching whatever he likes to watch so there's that. I am sorry for the Queen. Yes, she will miss her husband of so many years. They've been through so much together, and they are human after all. I can't get caught up in the current younger royal squabbles. They all need to grow up and act like grownups. As far as your back goes, I am very sorry you are having such issues. Praying the bed will help fix the pain. The memory foam topper idea might be what you need to try...I've heard good things. We do use an egg crate topper on ours and it is time to replace it. They do wear out after a while. I am sorry your doctor is leaving. I know it is hard to change when you've had a good one so long. We moved and had to change ours, and we are on our second dr. in less than 2 years...we don't have a lot to choose from here. Thankfully we are healthy so we don't have to go too often yet...but we are getting older every day. I hope you will find a new Dr. who will be exactly who you need at this stage in life. Can't wait to see the new patio. I do hope you will be able to get the lawn tractor out, however. Otherwise you may need to get a goat. Have fun. God bless you!

DeleteI only saw a few minutes of the service when I was at my mom's this morning. She filled me in on all the details...like the wool casket. Wool?! Alrighty then. I've never gotten into royal watching. I was working in the Poconos the summer Charles and Diana got married and missed the whole thing. So sorry about your doctor moving. It's awful to finally find one you love and then they leave. We had that happen last year. As for the bed, we have a 3" foam topper on our mattress and it is pretty much all that makes it semi-comfortable. We are still waiting for the new mattress to come in. It's been nearly 3 months since we ordered it. Stupid pandemic. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, Myra!

DeleteYes, yes, yes - I watched the entire funeral of Prince Philip. And I worried about those six brave men who had to carry the heavy casket up those endless stairs. I kept praying that none of them would trip or pass out.

Don't know if Kate's the most beautiful woman in the world, but she sure as heck beats Old Cow Camilla.
Mattresses? I desperately need a new one!! My old mattress is absolute torture to sleep on and probably should be burned.
One more thing - didn't Prince Philip have heart surgery shortly before he died? I thought it was a dangerous procedure to perform on a 99 year-old.
I ain't no doctor. It's just a thought.

DeleteI watched the ceremony yesterday, too, Myra, and found it extremely measured, touching and personal in a way, perhaps because of the precautions they all took because of Covid. I do like following the royal family, but am certainly not obsessed with them in the least. The Crown, however, is a great series if you've never watched it - makes you appreciate their lives and duties so much more.

ReplyDeleteI have never watched a funeral on TV, except for brief snatches pouring from Bob's news programs. I did watch Diana get married and cried when she died, and watched Megan get married but only because I loved Suits and wanted to see her dress.
Great idea to put the weighted blanket under you. We bought about 10 years ago a memory foam mattress in a box from Walmart.. we have loved it for 10 years. i thought i did a post but can't find it. the search thingy is not working properly. will send link to your email.
so sorry about the doctor, i just had to change mine because my beloved Dr seems to be in early dementia.. good luck with finding a new one. Bob and I had a female doctor we both loved, she was our primary and she got divorced and moved to KY . we still miss her
Tom's Doc only said to wear the covering when he sleeps; so of course, he thinks he has carte blance. LOL. I just asked Tom about a covering once the patio is poured ... and he admitted he's been thinking about it!

I do know of two fellows who did and my reply was (which is always my reply, grin), "As a Constitutional Historian, I am a little taken back why you care so much, didn't we beat Britain in the Rev. War?" Of course, they were like, "But Linda...." yeah yeah yeah...lololol---rolling eyes. I will contend Kate is very beautiful.

Sorry about the dr. My dr. is pushing the vaccine and I have had enough of that...I want to scream (too which I think I did), "Everyone just take a step back. I will decide, not you." That's where I am right now in my season of life. grin.

DeleteI watched Prince Philip's funeral. I guess I wanted to see history in the making, plus my heart was aching for Queen Elizabeth. On this day she wasn't just a Royal who had everything, she was a woman who lost her husband, her everything. So sad. I wanted to see how the brothers would get along and I think we were all pleased to see them talking afterwards. Kate was stunning, as usual, her incredible sense of style and grace always amazes me.

That's a lovely way of putting it! If hearts were aching everywhere for Elizabeth, well there's something the matter with them. Not physically, but Kate's grace reminds me of another Grace (Monaco).

DeleteI watched the funeral and felt such sadness for the Queen all alone through the service. It was a great tribute to the man who stood by her all those years. She is to be admired for all she has done for her country. The longest serving Queen in history. The deck looks like it will be wonderful when done. Hope all goes well with the problems of the mower and such. I know it's very hard to find a replacement doctor when one leaves. It took me years to find one, but don't give up there are other good ones out there. I have one of those memory foam mattress toppers on my old mattress and it's made a lot of difference. Back problems have been a problem for me for many years. Take care and be nice to your back.

DeleteYes I watched and yes I was very nervous about them stumbling!!! Yes, I have been in love with the Royal Family since Diana arrived on the scene. That's exciting about the concrete framing. We just got a new foam mattress after sleeping on a waterbed for years and years. I'm having trouble adjusting to it because I am a stomach sleeper.

DeleteI didn't watch the funeral. I can't wait to see your backyard!! My gynecologist moved a couple of years ago and I had to find a new doctor. I felt the same way about Dr. Brown. I always felt like I had a conversation with a friend when I went to see her. I hate having to find new doctors!!

She is definitely QUEEN material. And William will be a fabulous KING. I watched every second of the funeral. Then proceeded to read every UK paper since Saturday. As for your poor bones. i can empathize 100%. Take care. PS) Thank you for the sweet Easter card. It arrived Sat. The mail is slower than the pony express. The card made me smile as did the sentiment. something i sorely needed. i so appreciate your thoughtfulness.

I need a concrete front porch. THe messes whoever owned this made are unreal. It is a a we wore a blindfold and just dumped whatever whereever! HaHaHA! I do not induldge in any news or TV coverage as it always turns into the political fest but I do know many good things about Prince Philip and certainly can not imagine the QUeen, alone having spent most of her adult life with him. We love our adjustable bed with the tempur[idic mattresses. I sturggle with my hip pain too. PLus the rickety knees but I have a cooperfit knee sleeve and plan to get another and a pair of the compression gloves. I have lots of compression pants from LuLaRoe, that help me thorughout the day. They are not cheap so I always cruise the fifty percent or more sales. Tylenol and Doterra Deep Blue rub help too at night. Me and cold rainy weather do not get along either. Hoping you get some reliefe. I hate when the good doctors leave. Like law enforcement, I think we will see more of the unpredictable ones in the medical field as well as law enforcement as the good ones flee. USPS stinks and there is no other way to say it.
