Loving this cold weather! Granted, for those of you north of the Mason-Dixon line, the term 'cold' is open to interpretation (*smile*). I realized just a few hours ago, it's been nearly 20 years since I've seen snow, up close and personal. This. Must. Change.

So, Tom woke up Saturday morning and declared he was going to go buy a new dishwasher.
'Twas deja vu all over again.
No, my attitude about shopping for major appliances has not mellowed.
I think Tom read the specs and opened the lids of every stinkin' model on Lowe's showroom floor.
Our dialogue went something like this:
Me: "Who cares? As long as I can push a button and it does its thing, I'm happy.
Him: Every woman in America cares … except you.
Unfortunately, when an unenthusiastic salesperson finally deigned to show up, his was a 'take it or leave it' attitude.
So, we drove across the street and discovered friendly associates and better prices. Win-win, right?
Wrong.
The model he chose was something like $479(?) -- but it would have been $584 in black. Strike #1.
$100 delivery. Strike #2.
$25 to remove the old. Strike #3 … and we're still without.

I'm not a betting person, but would wager the folks at Dignity Memorial aren't going to offer that alternate job. Happy to say, Friday's my last day.
Which, I've concluded, is a good thing.
We just returned from meeting with Tom's cardiologist. Before he was called away during the cath procedure, the doctor discovered a significant blockage (85-90%) in one of Tom's arteries. Unfortunately, he's more concerned about pressure (I didn't quite understand) -- which means a referral to UAB Birmingham for a TAVR.
Never one to let bad news get in the way of our appetites, I've put on a pork loin w/ Hatch chiles; and Tom's bought a couple Red Baron pizzas! Bon appetit!

Has anyone else noticed Blogger's little 'come on', asking to "Try the New Blogger."

You have a few things going on. Sorry about Tom. That is a good hospital tho and hope they get things taken care of safely. My hubs does the same thing with appliances. I don't think that job was good for you. And I have not seen - "Try the New Blogger." Where did you see it at? sandie

ReplyDeleteBuying appliances can be such a hassle. A shop we went to advertised "FREE DELIVERY". We agreed to purchase an item and then they said the delivery is free if we were willing to wait for three weeks. If we wanted the item delivered sooner we'd have to pay extra.
I couldn't understand the logic of this. We took the details of the item we wanted and searched the internet for the same machine. We found it, delivered FREE, and it was cheaper than the price in the shop.

ReplyDeleteI am not an appliance shopper at all. I walk up, I like it ck the price if it is OK i get it. I have made a few mistakes with that attitude, but I will still do it imma thinking. (I learn ver slow). LOL The best to you guys, stay warm and hope you see at least a few flakes.......

ReplyDeleteI'd have your same attitude about appliances. I just go along with what hubby wants because he researches things (to death) so by the time we get to the store he pretty much knows what is out there and what he wants to purchase. Does your city have a store similar to Spencer's here? We have bought all the appliances we bought here (washer/dryer x2 houses) through them and found they were less expensive than Home Depot/Lowe's. Got a new fridge a few weeks ago. It was $35 delivery fee and $10 to haul the old fridge away (that was some type of recycling fee so it made sense). Good luck!

TAVR's are good procedures. Less invasive than open heart to replace valves. I understand the pressure part they are talking about but can't explain it in ways that make sense; I would just confuse you more LOL! (and then I would be accused of practicing medicine without a license, LOL).
Nope, not trying the new blogger. Saw the button but I'm not one that adapts well to technology so we'll hopefully not be forced to go with it!

ReplyDeleteI think I made the switch on Blogger but I can't remember if I'm using the new one now or switched back. It seems to me there wasn't that big of a difference, but that was back in the summer. Maybe it's a lot different now?
Call me a stick-in-the-mud, but right now I'm not interested in a new n' improved blogger. I fell for that when TIDE first changed their branding ... lol.

I'm loathe to try that for exactly the reasons you cite, Martha. I did summon the nerve to click it … only to read it's basically changing the look of certain pages (i.e., page views' statistics, etc.)

ReplyDeletei hate shopping of anykind and appliances are worst all. tell hubby not every woman cares, add me to the list. i have never owned a dishwasher, but all appliances i always get the simple ones. just so it does the job I don't care about the features. i do care about all the stuff they add to the cost. when i bought our stove a year ago, they added 30 for picking up the old one and 80 for delivery charge.. in the old days bob would have picked it up and installed it himself. yay for the end of your 'career'. ha ha… we are brrr temps of 57 this morning which is record breaking cold for our area... love your new profile pic.

Isn't it always something...dishwashers now, Tom's health and your job and all. It never ends...decisions, delicious. Will be praying for the best in all things. I would not have bought anything from the fellow who could have cared less either. I want a positive feeling when I get something new. They need to remember that the customer is important and the resoon they have a job after all. Sending love and prayers your way that all will be well.

DeleteI swear if blogger bothers me I will find one of my tech savvy relatives to help me build my own blog site. I have too much trouble since I started my second blog and they sure know how to take your joy away at google/blogger. Praying for you and Tom both. Sometime life is what it is and we do what we have to. No use staying in a job that gives you fits. My hubby was rolling about their lack of technology. But he works for fortune 500 lawyers so.....they go by the book and all that jazz. CS seems to have disappeared in our world. I won't buy anything from anyone not interested in helping me. I also find lack of enthusiasm disrespectful! I love the ones who see you have a question on your lips and they bow their head and make a beeline. Snowflake generation - not all but so many that drives me insane! University medical schools and hospitals are the very best. :-) Praying for all good things. HUGS and LOVE xo

DeleteUAB is an excellent hospital. That is where my son had his open heart surgery when he was 6--well at the "Quarterback Wing" they called it. Keeping your Tom in prayer.

DeleteSorry about the dishwasher shopping. Keeping Tom in my prayers. Mark had a 90% cholesterol blockage in one artery that they did right away. The other one was a calcium blockage 65% that they did another day but ended up finding three more!

DeleteNow that you know what's happening on the job front, I bet your stress level went way down. That period of indecision and not knowing can be a real pain in the patootie. Sorry about your hubby's health, but it sounds like he's in good hands. And he's wrong. You aren't the only woman who doesn't give a diddle about what kind of dishwasher we have. Matter of fact, I don't have a problem washing the dishes by hand. (I know. Blasphemy.)

ReplyDeleteAppliances, sigh. Our approach is to visit our favorite appliance places. It depends how old the thing is, and if it lived a long life, then we look at the same brand.
