So, THIS happened ... and that

Good morning!
Unless your name is Betty and you live in Arizona (*smile*), I think we can all relate.

The car radio? That's me!

So yesterday morning, I put on my big-girl panties and basically told my GM I don't think my employment is doing White Chapel or myself any favors.

Never in a million years did I anticipate feeling this way after what, 5 weeks?  I've tried to comprehend the legalities, etc., but it's like I'm trying to run up the down escalator.

Unfortunately -- and I don't mean to sound melodramatic -- Friday afternoon I really thought I was suffering a cardiac event. Like what happened to my father at 69 ... the same age I am today.
I quickly chewed a couple of baby aspirin, but still felt a crazy pressure in my chest.  And you know what I did?  Nothing.

Crazy, but my first thoughts went to my son -- and, how much I wanted a cigarette to feel better. (Pathetic, huh? It's been 6+ years since I quit, but there you go.)

This morning the pressure's gone, but I've an appointment with my primary doc in the AM, and might ask her for a referral.

Anyway. My GM allowed, that desk isn't without a good bit of stress, but he said he believed in me … and asked me to think about it over the weekend.  (Nothing to think about, but OK. I promised.)  He must have called the office manager, because Christina called a few hours later and said all the right (PC) things -- including, and this cracked me up so much, "I had no idea, because you're such a great example of grace under pressure." (bahahaha!)

* * *

Then, he could've knocked me over with a feather. Rather than resigning, would I consider working at another funeral home closer to my home. One without all the legal paperwork associated with a cemetery?  Basically, it's a much smaller and quieter operation; I'd be little more than a receptionist.

Tom and I've talked it over. Basically, if it doesn't involve Saturdays and the pay remains the same, I'm leaning towards giving it a try. No promises.

If not, I'm at peace with it.

No new blinds? No new flooring? No new computer?
So what?

Thanks so much for listening! 'Promise to keep y'all in the loop.

Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy these tidbits, below.
Have a delight-full Sunday, and be safe!

Hugs, Myra

  1. OMW! that last one is ME.. I do sit with my eyes closed hoping I will not wake up all the way. sometimes it works, sometimes not. I am glad you gave your notice, will be interested to see if they give same pay for a different job. I am betting not... everytime I think of getting a job so I can get a new computer, I think NO I rather be without. the words, I learned gobsmacked from Simon on Americas Got Talent, just this past season and I use poppycock a lot. thingamajig and whatchamacallit are used a lot and have used and been called ninkempoop...in fact the only words I don't use
are kerfunkle, bejeebers, bodacious. I learned most of these words because I read so much, a lot of them are in the old books from UK..

  2. Good for you on making the decision to leave that job because it stresses you. If you want the other one, I hope it is all it's been made out to be.

Okay, now I'm gonna holler at you! Woman, when you have "crazy pressure" on your chest you don't take aspirin and stay home. You take aspirin and get your behind to the ER! It may have been stress, but it may not have been. Better to be safe than sorry. It's true that most women ignore the signs of a heart attack...don't be one of them, 'kay?? We (and I) expect you to be with us for a long time yet!

    1. Aw, thanks for caring enough to holler. :) At least I was at my job with people around; and right near a major hospital. Thanks, Stacy.

  3. I love all of those words and believe I have used them all more than once! LOL Gosh, I'm sorry for the stress your new job has caused. Perhaps their offer of the job closer to home that has less stress will work well for you. Myra, we don't need stress at this time of our lives! If it doesn't bring you joy, it isn't worth it. I have a list of things we could use that we won't be getting without some extra jingle coming in but none of it is necessary for us to enjoy life. God has blessed us and here we are!! Love ya!!

    1. True. I've worked in other stressful situations, but I suspect my age makes it feel more pronounced. (Ouch!)

  4. Yes you definitely need a referral and get your heart checked out. I think that offer sounds wonderful and perfect for you. Praying there are no Saturday's!!

  5. Well...thanks...I needed this laugh, well, maybe you don't think its funny ((grin))...and I hope the chest issue isn't something serious--it might just be heartburn or a panic attack...now don't kill me over that, grin.

I think its sweet they offered you another position, they must think highly of you. smiles

  6. Thanks for the shout out, because if I don't say it now, I'll forget, LOL.

I'll go along with the others who admonished you about the chest pressure symptoms you had. You need to really consider checking them out sooner than later, LOL. Its really hard to discern but at your age it is a real concern. And of course the minute you say "chest pain/pressure" the doctors put in a whole protocol of tests that need to be performed so one wonders what to do. I'm glad you will be seeing your primary tomorrow. Let us know how you are doing!

I totally agree about the job and really life is too short to be so stressed about it. I'm finding that out myself LOL why I let myself be stressed for so long. I agree with you, if you can get the hours you want without stress, give it a try. And its good that they know you're thoughts about everything. Maybe they'll do a better job of keeping an eye on making sure you are fitting in comfortably.

  7. I'm glad you're going to see your doctor tomorrow. No sense fussing at you, because everyone else already has, but c'mon! Especially with your mom's history, you should be more aware. (Wait... stop the presses! You don't need to be aware... you need to DO something about it. And okay... you are.) I'll be thinking about ya.

It's smart to leave that job if it's causing you too much stress. Life's too short to put up with it. Maybe the new location would work out for you... or maybe it's time for you to kick all of the stress to the curb and just relax into retirement...?

Take care, and have a super week.

  8. I Have the retirement income of a church mouse, but happy. I know I could never go back to work. Too much craziness in the world. Plus health is so much better than money. We get by. In fact yesterday we were going to the thrift store to buy a used bed frame and our son called saying his friend, a mattress store mgr. had two he was going to have to dump in the trash. Floor models. Absolutely free. So we felt so blessed. Your good health is so much more important than anything. JUst do what is best for you. If the smaller outfit works out better great! Otherwise just chill out. Somehow things seem to work out. Please take care and get checked out :-) Prayers for you.

  9. Wow - how did I miss this dramatic post?
Myra, you've made the right decision (and one that I was secretly hoping for all along). And I think your recent cardiac event came from stress.

Take care of yourself, breathe a big sigh of relief, and don't make any more rash decisions until you feel better.

Another similar job closer to home sounds okay - - but it's not desperately necessary. To hell with new flooring or a new computer. Peace of mind and relaxation is more valuable.

Sending prayers and positive vibes your way - - and Big Hugs.

  10. What a scary moment for you, Myra! Hope all goes well with the doctor today - I think a full cardiac assessment would be the wise move for you.
The job? Well, the new offer might prove a lot less stressful, but take time to think about it. And yes, I look like Yoda at 4 in the morning when nature calls - lol!
    Blessings!

  12. Your feelings are expressed well. AND the job closer home maybe a good idea. Anyway YOU KNOW they were not GLAD to see you go (if you do). Options are good.
OH and the chest pain? Sometimes we need that 'LITTLE (big)' reminder we are mortal. Go with your heart. I did appreciate the read. It says a lot about the lady we know in the blogging family.
Love ya, hugs to the big guy!

  13. Nothing is worth the stress that affects your heath. Norhing. Might be the other job would be better, but you'll never know unless you try. Good luck one way or the other. There should be some kind of job you'd love to do and have no stress with ....my advice is to keep looking.

  15. Wow. That was not a good day at all! Going to the doctor is the best thing to do. And the stressful job being ditched is another best thing to do.
