Wow, that went by in a blur!
Tom and I elected not to exchange presents this year, but we feel especially blessed by expressions of love and laughter from family and friends.
And memories. Especially the memories.
Today's question ...
Today's question ...
Regardless of its monetary value,
what is the most meaningful gift you've ever received?
Hugs from Phoenix,
Myra

Well, this question has completely stumped me. I could get philosophical and say the gift of love that my mother gave me: tolerance, patience, forgiveness, and embracing the joy of living.
ReplyDeleteI suppose the greatest tangible gift was the piano that my parents bought when I was nine years old. The gift of music not only dramatically enhanced my life - it later became my life.
... and how fortunate for the rest of us that it did!
DeleteSad, but I recall being hugely disappointed when my parents bought me the piano. I was expecting a horse.
It sure was a blur, wasn't it? All those days or even weeks of preparation and then, WOOOSH!, it's over.
ReplyDeleteAs for the most meaningful gift, it's either the electric typewriter my parents gave me my senior year of high school when I already knew I was accepted to college for journalism...or the quilt we were given on our second Christmas. My aunt had found some quilt squares sewn by my great-grandmother and she put them together and quilted them and had everyone in the family (aunts, uncles, grandmother, grandfather, Mom...Dad was the lone holdout) put a few stitches in it. I still have it, but my great-grandmother's squares have become so delicate we can't really use it other than for display.
That quilt sounds priceless.
DeleteSmall world: I, too, went off to study journalism in college with a new electric typewriter!
Christmas was a blur for us. We thought we'd kick up our heels and relax this week but an old friend of mine will be passing through town and wants to come by for a visit. So the last couple days has been a house-cleaning frenzy here.
ReplyDeleteBoy, I can relate to that! I hope your visit was great fun.
DeleteI can hardly believe it is Wednesday already. The best gifts I've ever received are my family. Treasure untold for sure !
ReplyDeleteTreasure, indeed!
Deleteno answer for the question of the day.. as i typed that a memory popped in my brain. my boys are 50 and 52 years old, when they were 8 and 10, the week before Christmas, i opened a card and inside was a cashiers check for 100 dollars, in 1975 that was a lot. we were desparte for money and there it was. it was not from my parents or my aunt, because both of them had already given me cash to help with Chrismtas. i never knew and never will, who sent that money.
ReplyDeleteThis made me cry, Sandra. Angels!
DeleteYes, I still remember how enormous $100 seemed in 1975.
I don't even have to think about it....it was the car my son Justin gave me last year for Christmas. WOW! And yes, this year went by in a blur!
ReplyDeleteI'd forgotten that! What a wonderful son you have, Paula!
DeleteMy husband and I bought our retirement home 3 years ago to fix up while we finish his career in the city. After closing, my husband presented me with a key to our new house with the college logo (of which I am an alum) emblazoned on the key. It made me cry. We are moving to our retirement home September 2018. I am glad I found your blog. We have moving from one state to another in common!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting, Nawm, and best wishes for your own big move. I hope to get to know you in 2018!
DeleteI love it when you answer the questions, I am drawing a blank. But I will use my bicycles. the first, a used bike for my 6th BD, then later on my 10th birthday A brand NEW bike. One they could ill afford.
ReplyDeleteI cannot finish without saying as an adult (or I thought I was at 16) Sherry's Love. The most memorable gift, I have floated home from her house after a date.
But all in all, I prefer to read you sensible, logical answers. (BIG SMILE)
Aw, thanks! Boy or girl, I don't know any 'toy' that endures like one's first bike.
DeleteYOU and SHERRY make me smile. Always.
christmas did go by in a big blur this year. the gift of my daughters company is always special.
ReplyDeleteOh, I hope she knows that. :) What I wouldn't give for just one more Christmas with my mom.
DeleteTough one! But when I think back over my life it's definitely my parents. They were priceless. My friends are beyond price, too, and the gift of friendship warms my life every day.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful response! I've always enjoyed friends' company, but suppose FRIENDSHIPS have become far more precious since losing my parents.
DeleteI'd say the best gift is the gift that keeps on giving, and that is Jesus :)
ReplyDeleteEven though he truly wasn't technically a gift since we bought him ourselves, a certain corgi puppy was a most wonderful gift. He came along at the right time when we needed something to unify us together. And he too presented us with a gift that kept on giving (his hair shed all over the place :)
This whole year has gone in a blur.
betty
Jesus, yes!
DeleteAh, you make me smile. I know speaking of that certain corgi brings a smile to your face, as well.
same here, Myra. The gift I cherish most is family and laughter and simple pleasures of cooking meals and watching movies. I was spoiled this year and know it! Happy New Year to you and Tom.
ReplyDeleteThank you for being such a great example, Mary. Simple pleasures are the best!
DeleteI am late catching up on blogs, but here I am better late than never! LOL Hmmm. My most precious gift? Probably an oil paint set when I was in 8th grade. My folks recognized that I loved art and always encouraged it.
ReplyDeleteHow interesting! I knew you loved art, but didn't know you painted, as well. That's a really thoughtful gift.
DeleteThat is a tough one! Any and all gifts given from the heart and especially from all the littles. Kids, grands, great grands. I feel so young to be a great gram but I sure love it anyway! My mom and dad would be over the moon. You can live stream the videos for RedRocksChurch and you can watch videos just check out their site. Two ladies who served prison time recently were baptized at the church. Our Hannah visits her friend David in prison at least once a month. The process to visit is quite elaborate, govt. you know. But he is grateful for the company. SHe is one brave girl. I do not like doors locking behind me so I would be carried out via ambulance, if I even survived the fall. Claustrophobia drat drat drat! WHen I was 5 my dad errr.....Santa bought me a bike with training wheels. Dad taught me to ride and when he took off those training wheels.....adventures begin. I Just told my friend Lynette, we are lucky to be alive. As I got older I was fearless. We would ride down this steep hill behind some houses. Lord, why he allowed us to live is beyond me but that Lynette, girl is still getting me into mischief! HAHaHa!That bike and my dad teaching to ride without those training wheels.....it is always and forever in my heart. HUGS to you my friend.
ReplyDeleteOh, dear friend, how you crack me up! What sweet memories of you surviving both your first solo (bike ride) AND Lynette. :)
DeleteAbsolutely ... gifts from the little ones are precious.
I'm having trouble coming up with something. I do love giving gifts.....
ReplyDeleteThat's my favorite part, as well!
DeleteBeyond a doubt my children...
