Are there any other fans of ABC's The Bachelor out there?
For a while, that was 'appointment television' at our house. Even Tom watched ... if only to poke fun of the host.
I'd grow so cross! Seemingly, at each season finale the heroine chose (in my opinion) the wrong guy: a silver-tongued charmer ... a soulful artiste' ... a Johnny Depp look-alike. You get the idea.
Meanwhile, our pleasant-but-ordinary runner up is kicked to the back of the limo. Never mind, his was a blue-chip pedigree.
In retrospect, I can't help but compare our recent house hunters episodes to The Bachelor.
Had I listened to my head (v. my heart), I'd have saved us both a lot of grief. After all, this was DH's favorite all along.
Pleasant-but-ordinary.
No, I don't love it ... but you may remember where infatuation got me. And I don't get to tell people we live in Eclectic. (I love that name!)
... But I like it a lot, and I can't discount the nearly-new HVAC system. There's lots to be said for peace of mind.
We'd some reservations about a large tree situated too near the sun room. Can you spot it there, behind the café table? Happily, our instincts proved correct (thank you, Jack!) and it's been taken down.
Rueful chuckle.
Had we acted earlier, the paint schemes we found so attractive would have remained. Even the wallpaper border - so reminiscent of Tuscany - was recently taken down, probably in an effort to appeal to the masses.
Oh my! Can you imagine how the seller would feel if he finds out we want to replicate the original colors? There's little likelihood I can find the same border, but I'm sure going to try!
So. God willing and the creek don't rise, we hope to close on the house in Coosada next month.
The only project left (here) is new carpeting, but that must wait until January.
I'd hoped to list this place right after the 1st, but Life's just happening too fast. Heck, I'm even (almost) overwhelmed about next Saturday's garage sale. LOL!
What the heck. Color me singing ....
You can't always get what you want ... but if you try sometime you find
you get what you need.

When we bought the house we live in now and have been living in for 27 years I found one much like yours it was a little frame house built in the 1920s and it had a screened in porch and I fell instantly in love with it but we didn't get it my second choice was this house and after we moved in I have loved it and still love it for 27 years. This is a beautiful home that you found and my favorite part is that glassed-in room I've always wanted one of those. I would love to sit out there and read. And I really like the kitchen too. You may find once you move in that you'll leave it with the new colors but I did get a chuckle out of the you wanted it like it was and they changed it for you and for sellers. I wish you much good luck.

DeleteI'm so happy for you!! I think the house looks great and don't see 'ordinary' at all. Sometimes you just need to go with your gut and know that you have made the right decision. ReplyDeleteI suppose 'ordinary' isn't so bad. Sure, I'd my heart set on finding a historic place with a big old front porch ... but we've neither the budget or 'oomph' to deal with problems inherent with old places.

DeleteI love the sun room and it doesn't look ordinary to me. I live in a building built in 1911. Very charming, but there's always something that seems to be wearing out.

ReplyDeleteJust between you and me - I'm becoming more disenchanted with life in the wilderness every day. The problems and complications have taken their toll. In three short years I have turned into Robinson Crusoe's ugly brother....
Hopefully your entire moving process will be smooth and seamless. The only advice I will give is this:
If you have any treasured, cherished mementos DO NOT entrust them to the movers.
Never let them out of your sight..and carry them on your back to your new home if you have to. I speak from bitter experience.
I apologize for turning this comment into a rant - - but I still have flashbacks and nightmares from all the horrors I endured during my move from TX to TN.
Great advice, Jon. Yes, I remember your sad losses. There's a goodly-size glass boot (that) my dad carried with him across Europe, over the ocean and back to New Mexico on the bus. There's no way I'm letting anyone else get their hands on it!

DeleteLooks like you have found the perfect home. Alabama, right? What was wrong with the tree by the sun room? It's funny how sellers are changing everything to try to please their buyers. They should just let the buyers change things!! When is moving day?
ReplyDeleteYes, central Alabama. My son about had a cow when he first spotted the tree. There's a concern about the roots impacting the foundation (and or nearby septic tank). Also, were it to fall - even away from the house - the root ball could lift the foundation.
DeleteMoving day won't occur'til we sell our present home and I can turn in my notice at work. March, maybe? Stay tuned!
