my new sparkling string of star lights is my favorite. I have an old Saint Nicholas that I love also. I have not best taste this season, my diet doesn't allow seasonal foods... if I could my favorite is my sister in laws fruit cake she sends us every year. I hope she doesn't send it this year, that would be like mailing an alcoholic a bottle of booze

DeleteFrom my childhood it is citrus. The smell and taste, because Christmas was the only time we had oranges and especially tangerines. When I got older it was the grapefruit. But Citrus hands down for me.
ReplyDeleteI will smile if we get a chance to get out the ceramic Christmas out. It is either the one or one like it (can't remember) that a fellow sailor made for Sherry and I in Key West.

Really? Little Myra would have loved giving Little Jackie all the oranges she received in her (church) stocking. Phewy!
Deletei's a tossup between my Beach Santa or my Snowman playing the piano filled with xmas carols. taste wise i'd have to say fruitcake. there are so many ways to make it.
ReplyDeleteCurious! Here, I presumed they all arrived petrified with those waxy pieces of fruit in a circular tin. You and Sandra are the only ones I know who've eaten fruitcake!

DeleteMy Nativity set is my favorite 'decoration' and the cookies on a plate full of Christmas cookies provides me with the best taste...and how great they smell while baking!
ReplyDeleteI was hoping someone would say a plate of cookies! That would be my choice, too, only UNbaked. I've always had a thing for raw cookie dough.
DeleteMy mom's nut roll for the taste. I didn't inherit the baking gene, my sister and niece did, so occasionally I get to taste it again, but its never quite like mom's :)
ReplyDeleteMy nativity set would be my favorite Christmas decoration. Not doing a tree this year, but did get a few (very few) decorations up; the nativity was definitely there on the mantle.

The best taste of the season has to be decorated Christmas cookies. A classic that always hits the spot. My all time favorite decoration is a bell I hang up every year. It is the very first decoration I bought when I was first married. It plays music when you pull a string and every year now I limit the pulls it gets as it's so old now I'm afraid it will break.

I haven't done any serious decorating since I moved out here to Nowhereland - but I LOVE colored lights. They are so soothing and bring back many nostalgic memories. And I will put them up again this year.

DeleteThey're not a decoration, exactly, but my favorite are leather collars with bells worn by my grandfather's sleigh horses.
Gosh, I think I would have to go with Christmas cookies and my collection of Nativities.

DeleteThe definitive Christmas season food for me is cookies... all kinds of cookies. Tins and tins of them. Rolled cookies, dropped cookies, filled cookies, pressed cookies, chill-and-slice, you name it. I used to make an obscene number and variety of them. No more. I may make a few dozen to carry to our grandchildren, but that's it. Well, maybe a teensy bit for my cookie monster (diabetic) husband, too. Another favorite Christmas food is whiskey cake, brimming with nuts and raisins, but my hubby isn't a fan, so I haven't made it in years. THE best kind of "fruitcake," in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteFavorite decoration? Hmm, hard to say. We have a lot of really old stuff, all of which have sentimental value. I'll say the ceramic figure of three robed carolers, which used to belong to my grandmother.
Yummmm! I'd love to taste the whiskey cake ... presuming I could surreptitiously pick out the raisins!
DeleteAll my family's olden ornaments were misplaced in a move.... I hope their new family loves them.
Apricot rolls! (I don't like nuts so we always make various fruit and poppy seed rolls, too.)
ReplyDeleteMy collection of Santas, half of which I inherited from my aunt, is normally my favorite, but this year it is the Fisher-Price Little People Nativity on the coffee table because our littlest grandson has so much fun playing with it....and sending Nanny on a scavenger hunt for all the pieces when he's done!
For sure, watching that baby boy 'meet' the manger must be a joy. Does he chortle with glee watching you fetch?

I love cheesecake and carrot cake so those are my favorite sweet treats! I love a ham and a turkey and this year the hubby added a fancy roast to our menu. I LOVE my Nativity sets. I have a bunch but they each have such special meaning to me. We have a new tree and I LOVE it too. I am so allergic to the resl stuff so we go for the un-natural trees. lol. It is a real beauty though, flocked, just the way my daddy loved a tree. THanks for this share. HUGS and LOVE
