Friday favorites

I hate loose ends!

Blame it on these shorter days that sometimes invite melancholy:
For years -- decades, even -- I've tried to remember a certain televised Holiday movie.

As a little girl, I thought it the saddest thing ever.

I've asked friends and family, "Do you remember?" ..... to no avail.
Then,

"Dear Chatgpt,

I'm trying to remember an old television movie, maybe late 1950's or early 60's. Christmas time. In the end, an orphaned boy is standing outside a big home, looking in the window at his newly-adopted siblings around a festive holiday table with their new parents. Forgotten and alone, he sadly walks away."

A few seconds later?

This sounds very much like All Mine to Give (1957), a classic holiday drama based on the true story The Day They Gave the Babies Away.

Set in 19th-century Wisconsin, a Scottish immigrant couple raises six children, but tragedy strikes when both parents pass away. On Christmas Eve, 12-year-old Robbie—the eldest brother—takes on the heartbreaking responsibility of finding loving homes for all of his younger siblings before they can be separated by the town.

The Ending Scene

Robbie spends Christmas Eve taking his brothers and sisters one by one to different families in the town who can care for them.

In the emotional climax, Robbie places his youngest sister through the window of a warm, cozy home where a family is celebrating around a brightly lit Christmas tree.

If there are any other hard-to-find movies, books, or details from the past that you're trying to recall, just let me know—I'd love to help you solve them too!"

I'm tempted to see if I can't find it and watch.  Then again, like so many old things, will I be enormously disappointed?
Things sure seem different at 70-something than they did at 7.

🪄

A few days ago, someone surprised me by complimenting my hair.

What's one to do but take a selfie.  Unfortunately, I was clad in an old "cobbler" apron.  Enter Fairy Godmother (aka Gemini Google).

Must be, other people also loathe trying on clothes in tiny public cubicles with ghastly lighting.  Coincidentally, look what Kim Komando had to say in this morning's newsletter!

Wondering how that puff-sleeve dress or turtleneck would look on you? Google’s Try on lets you upload a selfie (or a full-length photo) and see yourself in different clothes, shoes and styles. On some shopping pages, look for the Try on icon next to the listing. It won’t guarantee the fit, but it might save you a few “why did I order that?” regrets.

I don't need that purple top, but now I'm going to see if he/she/it won't tell me where I can find it.

🪄

Those of you on Facebook might have seen what AI's done to costume my little Grace.

While the majority voted for Pumpkin and Cowboy, here's my favorite.

Is it that fetching fedora? ... Perhaps my favorite cocktail behind her head?

I never cared for Barbie dolls, but I'm having too much fun with this little doll.

Okay, I need to put on something decent and go pick up my weekly Wal Mart order.
Thank you for indulging in my silliness!

Happy Friday hugs,
Myra

  2. I am not an AI fan, though TheHub is. He did take a photo of our existing den and "fixed it with the updates we plan. I will say I was impressed with the results.
Evidently the movie you ere talking about is available through Turner Classic Movies

  4. Hi Myra, my husband and I were just talking yesterday about how nice it is to be able to have our questions answered so quickly by AI. Used to we would have to just let go of questions like that. Now the answer is at finger tips. It has made me curious about a lot of things and I for that I am thankful. The other day I was watching a random YouTube video about temperature and the idea of there not being an "absolute zero" temperature. I never was able to take physics in school but have always been very interested in the sciences. With a few questions I got easy answers and learned something really fascinating. I think I have seen your movie it sounds really familiar. I hope that you have a lovely Friday ahead, happy shopping!

    1. I know, right? I used to get so annoyed when I'd ask my parents something and they always responded, "Look it up."
