Hodgepodg'ng

..... to the Hodgepodge, brought to you by Joyce each Wednesday.  I hope you'll want to join in the frivolity!

🫠

Hello August.  What's one thing you're looking forward to this month?

We're that much closer to Winter!
(Jus' keeping it real.)

What are you doing to beat the heat right now?  If you live in the southern hemisphere are you enjoying cooler temps, or counting the ways until Summer?

There's no 'beating' summer temps here in Alabama.
I'm trying to drink more (water) and stay indoors as much as possible.

How do you see the world?

What a mess we've made!
All the same, God knows all about it ... and still manages to love us.

What's a food product you think is better store-bought than homemade?  How about something you refuse to buy because it is so much better homemade?

We've come a long way from Home Economics, haven't we?

These days, I think almost everything's better store-bought.

The only exception I can think of are soups and stews ... any canned goods containing all that sodium.

Are you easy to get along with?

I think so, yes.
I'm no longer the pushover I once was -- but rarely argue, simply to prove a point.

Insert your own random thought here.

This one strikes a chord with me.
What do you think?

Thanks so much for stopping by ... I appreciate you!

Hugs, Myra

  1. A variety of subjects ... where do I start?

The thing about store bought items is that they are so much cheaper than home-made. Cakes, bread, various biscuits and cookies for instance. Although I agree with you about being careful of the ingredients used in store-bought items.

I've tried (semi-successfully) to make cakes and bread. The dog sure likes them. The family is yet to be convinced. Have you tried chocolate cake with beetroot?

I'm not so sure that writing is for introverts. I'll have to think about this one next time I am alone.

You're so right, God is still in control despite what we are doing to this world.

    God bless you always.

    1. I think I'm going to pass on the chocolate cake (*grin*). I'll never claim to be a real author, but sense (some) value their solitude while creating.

    2. I can post the recipe if you wish.

      God bless.

  2. You are not kidding about no beating an Alabama summer. You just wear a lot of cotton and stay in the a/c as much as possible.
When my youngest son was very young he had spent the night with my mom. She made him pancakes, his favorite but rarely had breakfast. After he had eaten them he told her they were OK but not a good as mine.
Later that day mom asked me for my pancake recipe___Pillsbury from the freezer section at the grocery store.

    1. That's precious! Does he still enjoy pancakes?

  3. I find myself preferring storebought mostly because of convenience - I don't have the time or interest in making all the things from scratch, especially since I don't have my own garden. I'm pondering the quote about writing - I think it's probably true to a large extent. Have a great week!

  4. I'm pondering the John Green quote. I can't decide if I agree or not. Have a great Wednesday and stay cool in the AC!

  5. I'm keeping cool by staying in with the a/c on. It's so important to keep well hydrated. The heat causes us to need more. I don't buy store bought lemonade. Making your own is easy to do and tastes so much better! Love, ma

    1. I've never tried making my own -- but I believe there's a little plastic juicer languishing unused in a ktichen drawer. Hmmmm.

  6. Might I hire you for lessons on How to NOT aruge to prove a point.. Bob and I both argure to prove a point which means we bicker every day of our life.
It will be nov before we get heat relief, AC life it is.
Home made pizza is just not good to me, i like mine delivered hot and fresh from a pizza joint. but not the frozen kind from the store.
I don't like to write, but when I do, like for a post , i have to be alone because if someone else is in the room, I am TALKING. hard to write and talk at the same time.

    1. I don't always succeed but try really hard to be more like my dear mother. Dear lady must have had scars on her tongue from biting back cross words.

  7. Love that random thought! Ha ha, so true. 😄

"How do you see the world?"

Something is happening to us, all of humanity, we are waking up from a long nightmare.

  8. Enjoyed your answers and the random thought especially. From reading your blog, I don't see you that way (you seem so joyful and funny), but you know you. Take care my friend and have a great day!

  9. A few people have mentioned that August is closer to Winter. I agree, water and stay indoors. Yes, the world is a mess. Yes, we have come a long way from Home Economics. Yes, the sodium in those canned goods is terrible. I would think you are easy to get along with. I think that saying is rather unusual.

  10. It's not only the sodium now that's the problem. A friend shared a picture of Campbells Chicken Noodle soup the other day, and under ingredients it mentions-bio engineered foods' Ugh. Stay cool!

  11. Well as an Introvert I totally agree with the quote of course there are 4 different types of Introverts. I write because I can get out all the voices in my head that beckon to be heard.

I have never been to Alabama in the summer. My late brother's family live in Cullman and I like Sept/Oct but we did go back in late August back in 2018 and they all said, we picked a good week because it was nice and not terribly humid. As soon as we left I checked and it was HOT and Humid. I'm overdue for a visit.

I enjoyed your answers and I agree with you about the world.

  12. Good afternoon - I totally agree with you about summer - I don't think we are even in the dog days of summer yet here in GA.
We have made a mess of this world - and my hope is that no matter what God is going to be victorious in this.
Lastly I agree about the salt and that store bought things are pretty good!

  13. Homemade soups and stews are the absolute best, Myra, but not in this hot weather! The AC is my friend right now. Like you, I can't wait for some cooler temperatures.
As a writer, I'm content to be introverted, but I do love being around people - but not for an extended length of time.
    Blessings!

  14. I love that quote! Even though I'm half-introvert/half-extrovert I prefer to converse by writing. It gives me time to ponder things.

  15. I have never thought of myself as an "introvert", but my writing is more of a window into my mind and heart than I would ever share out loud in person face to face. I write much better than I speak. I get so tongue tied and forget half of what I wanted to say. In writing I can go back and re-read it and rewrite it to make better sense. That's helpful. Once it's spoken out loud, you can't take it back if it came out wrong. Yes, it is very HOT this summer. And yes, we HAVE made a mess of this world. I keep watching and waiting for Jesus to break through the clouds with the trumpets blaring to call us home!! Regarding homemade vs. store bought...I almost died last week from eating a can of soup. It was a "loaded potato soup", and I added a few crackers and cheese, and I almost had a blood pressure explosion! I had no idea how much sodium was in that can of soup until my heart was beating in my neck and head so hard I thought I was going to pop. I had to drink a lot of water and eat an apple and try to calm down...and not eat one more gram of sodium for the rest of the day. I do not normally have high blood pressure, but I sure did that day. No more canned soups for me, unless they are the low-sodium variety, and then only as really needed. (like Campbell's chicken noodle soup when I feel puny). That was an eye-opener and wake up call!!

    1. That's seriously frightening, Pam! So glad you were able to recover without having to seek ER.
Your first few sentences might have come out of my own mouth! When I have to speak out-loud I wind up babbling and going every which way but where I intended.

  16. I grew up in Illinois which is just as nasty as that in the South. Humidity! It felt like we could cut blocks of water from the air. Here in southern California, we are dry as dry, hot as hot, and windy as windy. Great migraine weather.

  18. Another fun Hodgepodge. Fun answers and I actually agree about store-bought most anything is better (these days) than made at home. I love to cook but not for just one - so I make too much and eat too much and toss out what I put in the freezer. Sigh. I think you are very easy to know!! Hugs!

  19. Love the way you see the world, I agree 100%.

  20. I make everything from scratch including taco seasoning etc to avoid sodium but its hard to cook for just me alone. I enjoyed reading your answers today.

  21. I prefer to cook from scratch, however, with that said...sigh....have a great day friend!

  22. I enjoyed your answers. I can't do high temps and high humidity. I'd have to just live inside, and that would drive me nuts.
