What puts a spring your step these days?
Must be the last time I stubbed my toe on the bed frame and hippity-hop-hopped my way around the room.
April 2nd was National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day. Did you celebrate? Do you like PB and J? If so, how do you like yours? What's your favorite kind of jelly?
Nope, no observance. I've actually put myself in a PB time-out ... I can't be trusted with an open jar of JIF. The only way I enjoy PB is straight-up on a soup spoon. (Bonus points if the spoon's spent time in the freezer.) Were I to consume jelly, it would probably be grape. Or apple butter. Does apple butter count?
What's memory you associate with spring flowers?
One of my mother's greatest joys was her gardenia bush. Without fail, each year it would erupt in creamy blossoms on or about her April birthday.
I'd visit and discover them floating in pretty glass bowls of water throughout her home.
Three things on your spring bucket list? Do you have a spring bucket list? (If not pretend you do.)
1. Our house is crying for a professional power wash
2. Corral (or eliminate) the paperwork I've allowed to get out of hand
3. Resume walking the Village Green
Probably back to UAB. We're still waiting to hear from Tom's cardiologist. (*impatient sigh*)

So, I think everyone knows by now, the sunflower is Ukraine's symbol of resistance. In keeping with my friends' habit of random gifting, I recently purchased all of Tractor Supply's seed packets -- and gave away at the next Bible study.
The variety name (Russian Mammoth) seems especially cruel, doesn't it?
Somehow I miscounted, and have 4 packets remaining. Would you like one? (If more than 4 of you raise your hands, I'll do a quick drawing and announce names in my next post.)
We're expecting more severe weather in a couple hours; schools are dismissing students at Noon. So I'd better get my uh-huh in gear and make a dash for groceries -- maybe even a little jar of PB!

Sunflowers were extremely easy to grow in Texas - I grew them all the time when I lived there.
ReplyDeleteI tried growing them here in TN, with absolutely NO results. Perhaps because it's seldom sunny here??
Gardenias have always been my favorite flower. The scent is heavenly.
I prefer to use strawberry jam when I make peanut and jelly sandwiches. Sometimes grape.
I'm still (impatiently) waiting for spring. More cold weather is expected this weekend - with frost!!!
We are also expecting severe weather this afternoon (Wednesday). Stay safe and take care.

DeleteNot sure if Sunflowers grow in Florida or not. Nonetheless, I don't have my own yard, sigh. We had a few thunderstorms here this morning/afternoon. And I think Spring has left us here in Central Florida and turned right into Summer. OH AND the AC is back on woohoo! The guys almost finished the remodel in the kitchen and our friends aid, "She isn't going to like the ac on, but who cares. I ain't having a sleepless night again." LOL

ReplyDeleteI take it by professional power wash you mean the outside of the house. It would be terrible if the carpets and furniture were all soaking wet!
When I paint indoors I am so impatient that I don't bother to scrape off the old paint off the walls first. I paint over the old paint on the walls. Each year or so a new layer on the old paintwork. The rooms are getting smaller with all that paint on top of each other year after year. Now even the mice are hunch-backed. No room to swing a cat. We have to do it outside.
I love crunchy peanut butter with raisins in a sandwich or on toast. Also, separately, ginger marmalade.

Hahaha! Actually, I've a visual of those walls with layers of paint. My peanut butter's got to be extra-crunchy, but I'd have to dig out the raisins.
DeleteHoping the weather passed you by! What a great idea to share the sunflower seeds! You are amazing. Gardenias are beautiful but the fragrance gives me a horrid headache. I just can't take gardenias, lilies, or honeysuckle smells. Sigh. xo

DeleteApple butter is wonderful on peanut butter, preferably on toast. I like it on Cinnamon Raisin toast in particular! Gardenias are lovely to look at from a distance. Like Terri above, they give me a horrid headache too, along with other strong scents. The sunflower idea is so wonderful. I do hope you will get some "takers". I know I've had some volunteer sunflowers spring up under my birdfeeders now and then. They don't get real big, but they have bloomed. So probably I could grow them here, but I fear the squirrels would dig up the seeds as fast as I could plant them! Those pecky critters just can't leave well enough alone! I hope you get some takers. Deletewe are expecting storms this morning, its 6:20 and i hae a derm doc appt at 8:30 and hoping they wait until i am back home. I am so happy to say that peanut butter is on my diet and is ok with IBS as long as I limit it to two tablespoons a day, more upsets the tummy. it is one of my meals every day.. I celebrate peanut butter every day.. daffodils, we call them jonquils, are spring flowers and my mother loved hers like your mother loved camelias and always put a few inside. azaleas were the thing for her and she had about 6 giant bushes.

ReplyDeleteApril 2 was our anniversary, so I didn't think much about peanut butter, I'm afraid. :)
I'd love to grow sunflowers, but we don't have enough sunlight here in the forest to make that happen. I love that you bought the seeds and gave them away.

DeleteOh my, Peanut butter and jelly and sunflowers in one post.. They are two of my favorite things. I prefer grape jelly on my sandwich too. I've tried growing sunflowers but the best grew up beside my bird feeder from the seeds in bird seed I fed the birds. They are so cheerful and sunny, I can't help but love them.

DeleteAuntie Ang loved the sunflowers. I love them too. Such sweet blooms. I am sorry I was MIA> INternet woes galore. It would take a day to tell all the frustrations. Hoping Nick can get a DIrect TV box so he can be able to watch his programs. Baseball started today. Rockies lost boo....but I am loving seeing all the teams play. Nick and I are going to get the basbeall package so we can watch all thegames we want when we can . I am disorganized. Paperwork galore too. But somehow I am trying to get it all under control. LOVE Peter Pan PB and bosenberry reserves. I have becoem addicted to Cahntilly cake. Oh Lord, why, oh Why???? I Need more walking and less good food times. Wether has been warmer but thr wind we had was horrible. Grateful it is subsiding now. Prayers for you and Tom HUGS & LOVE & MANY PRAYERS.
