Simple Pleasures

🍀

When was your last 'best' day?

Pretty sure the pandemic's redefined my pleasure triggers.  At any rate, Friday morning Tom was in a sunny mood and readily agreed to accompany me across I-65 to Prattville.

(🤣 remembering how, only a few years ago, we thought nothing of driving 20 miles into Phoenix -- v. the 3.4 to P'ville)

I got my Target fix, and Publix, too!
...where, drawn by an invisible string, I found myself at the mecca of all things cheese.

Yo, Stacy!

Interesting ...

In the end, I went with my favorites.
I thought Tom might stroke out at the cash register, but no.
Happy Birthday Month to me!

Some of y'all may recall -- aside from Sunday roast or pizza -- Tom and I usually do our own thing when it comes to meal time.
Our tastes are like Mars and Venus -- and he's not reluctant to get in the kitchen.

His lunch

... and mine
Green eggs and ham sausage ... in homage to Dr. Seuss.  Yes, even at this 'advanced age' I still like to play with my food.

🍀🍀

Weary of my closet resembling that of a teen-age boy, I got to purging.  Then purged some more.  (Anyone need several dozen hangers?)

As closet space goes, it's not spacious.  But as a result, I've 2-3 projects simmering.

There's e-Bay...
Makes my feet hurt, remembering what I used to wear to work!

..... and finding spots for those things I don't care for but can't part with, either.
This, one of my mother's favorite hangings she bought in Solvang.  I know there's a name for this type of specific lace art(?), but for the life of me I can't recall.

Totally not my style -- but neither does it belong in a box.  So, it's come to reside inside my bedroom's chiffarobe.
Two Key West watercolors are waiting to be hung inside the closet.

🍀🍀🍀

I'm so excited to reveal Tom's back-yard project!
The rotting deck is being decimated and a concrete patio poured. (If it ever stops raining.)

Meanwhile, he was out this afternoon burning bridges. Literally. Burning the bridge.

And where's the fire extinguisher?
Sitting in the corner of the storage building where we found it 3 years ago. (*sigh*)

Ya, I love me some fire!
Safety training -- long ago and far away.

Thank you so much for spending part of your Sunday with me!  Have a blessed new week!

Hugs, Myra

  1. I love that last photo Myra, you go girl! I guess every day is my last best day. If I wake up on the right side of the dirt it's a good day lol. I'm glad you got your Publix and Target fix. You crack me up with the green eggs! Cheers to burning bridges *glasses clinking* :)

  2. This was great! Always a treat to come here, never know what will happen next!! Not a Target fan...don't have one near us anyway, but since they started promoting the "use the bathroom of whatever gender you think you are" and other kinds of gender issues...I think I'll stick with those places that still recognize the difference between a man and a woman. That's just my personal preference. Publix I love. We just don't go there much anymore either. We mostly shop at our local grocery store (Hitchcock's) and big stuff at Walmart (paper goods, etc.). Not fond of them either, but we gotta use toilet paper, so I try to save a penny or two when I can. We are fresh out of corncobs and Sears catalogs. LOL. Love your Green Eggs and Ham! You are my kind of gal! Hooray for Dr. Seuss!!If they start cancelling everyone because of something they did in the very far distant past before they were "enlightened", pretty soon there will be no one left to cancel. Then what will those poor snowflakes do? Melt I hope. LOL. I am too cynical tonight, sorry. It's been a long week! Hope yo have a blessed and beautiful week....and keep burning those bridges! LOL

    1. When that bathroom 'thing' came up, yes. I flat refused to set foot in any Target stores. But when WM began all self check-out, I reconsidered. After all, here in Alabama I don't think there's a living, breathing soul who'd DARE set foot in a gender neutral bathroom for all the great red-blooded fellas waiting outside to beat the **** out of him. No apologies necessary -- I like that we think the same way.

    2. unfort...we have gender neutral bathrooms here...fort. my employer does not. grin

  6. Simple pleasures are the best, Myra. And I love browsing the cheese aisle whenever I go to the store, which at this point, seems like it's been forever! I'm sure your new patio will be beautiful.
    Have a blessed week!

  7. First what interest me the most of this post.
FIRE I LOVE FIRE.. and the playing with it. I want to do what you did..
I love cheese, all of it, I love bannans, 2 of my favorite foods. now with what i have self diagnosed as IBS i can't eat either one. nuff said.
My feet hurt just looking at those shoes.
About the lunch, Bob makes his breakfast and his dinner but I have to furnish LUNCH which is the Big Meal of the day. he never touches the kitchen except for breakfast and sandwich at night. I would go for Toms sandwich and bob would go for your eggs and sausage. I could live on sandwiches and in fact the three years i lived alone, the only ones out of my 76 years, i never cooked anything

    1. Fire excites and enthralls me, too.
All this time going barefoot, my feet won't even go halfway inside those shoes. Just sad I only got to wear them once.

  8. Sherry is over there laughing at your comment on space travel. LOL
I love 'His Lunch' but for sure wouldn't mind trying yours.
I must check the net to find out the problem with Dr. S.
Love the shot of 'fire fighting!' reminds me of my USN days.

    1. I was out the door last time but I had to come back about the deck & high heels. Hope the rain clears up soon to see some concrete back there. The High heels I thought of Shirl, I saw her once, after coming in from her office work, she was doing yard work in high heels. She realized it and we all had a good laugh.

  9. I love reading your posts. Cheese...ahhh as I get older I love it more and more. Once in a while hubby and I take a drive to Amish Country here in Ohio and they have the best cheese store (they actually make it there which is fun to watch). They have samples of all the cheese to try and I love going there.

I need to get in an clean a couple closets too. I'm running out of room and probably most of the stuff I haven't worn in a couple years. Time to purge!

  11. I looked at your post FIRST on my phone and could not figure out what you were eating (even though you told us!). I had to get on my desktop for closer inspection :-). I love good cheese! We bought some cheese last year that had blueberries in it!

  12. Those shoes! I never wore high heels, but for a while when was working I wore shoes with low ones. Even that didn't last too many years. Thank heaven for retirement and wearing comfortable clothes and shoes.

  13. I really like Tom's Dagwood sandwich. I'm not quite sure about the green eggs - but the homage to Dr. Suess is a very good cause.

My closets need more than a purge - they require an exorcist.

    Solvang? In California?
There's a little Danish town in the Santa Ynez Valley that's known for Danish bakeries, homemade pea soup, and tulips. My parents went there quite often.

    I'm a cheese addict!

    1. Yes, that one! Do you like pea soup? "Ma" published a yummy sounding recipe today that I'm going to try:

  15. This is the reply I left on my blog about the A to Z challenge, leaving it here too just in case you don't pop back over to see it...

It's still only March 9th, plenty of time to come up with a theme and start working on it Myra! I haven't started yet and probably won't do much to prepare besides sorting through photos to find one for each letter. Stop over thinking, just jump in and join in the fun! :)

  16. My last best day was last Wednesday. I went to the Museum of Modern Art and had lunch with dear friends. I'm in a decluttering/divesting mood, too. I've got two bags for the Salvation Army and I'll be enjoying spring weather when I walk over this afternoon.

  18. I wish you and Tom were our neighbors. Ah....a new patio. Lucky you. I love your little framed lace angel. I have a pair of windmill earrings my friend sent me from Solvang. I would love to visit there. :-) We spent some time watching the boys, always a blast. Then we helped set up the house. Brittny, her mom and I were at the house with the boys when the furniture came. Addy too. Oh what fun seeing them set up their dining room and their master bedroom is like a dance hall. So happy for them. I sure love your post.

  20. I have been here already but Oh Cheese! Love it. We would be great neighbors. I think it is time Vanna WHite traded in those high heels for some running shoes. SHe moves slower than mud in the wintertime. Drives me batty with her high heels. There comes a time, as we age, that those shoes need to go away. Just a personal opinion but having had to run the floors 2-8 in my hospital admission days, I learned comfy was your best friend not trying to look good. HaHaHa
