Over and over

... at the Hodgepodge!

For anyone unfamiliar with this meme, Miss Joyce asks the questions.  We answer on our own blogs and link back to the mother ship, as it were.   Want to join the party?  Simply click HERE.

March 9 is National Get Over It Day.  What's something you need to 'just get over, already'?

Up until the Harry and Meghan interview, I thought I'd recovered from the last 5 years (of 15) at my last job.   Without taking sides, I can totally empathize with Meghan's claims about what went on behind closed doors.

Were I to share examples, I've no doubt you'd think I was (a) exaggerating, (b) delusional or (c) pathetic, for having stood for the subtle-but-real abuse exacted by my boss.

No-one was holding my hand to the flame, forcing me to go there each weekday.  It was a choice I made in exchange for the generous benefits and salary package.

Only when I realized my own mental health was in jeopardy did I start making plans to walk away.

No longer having to act as if all's well in the kingdom is so freeing!   But ya, there are times it all comes back.  She still guest stars in my nightmares.

I need to Get Over It for once and for all.

Something you're currently 'over the moon' about?

I'm still 'over the moon' at being a barefoot retiree!

What's something you're 'chewing over' these days? (Meaning thinking over carefully.)

It's not a Big Deal... but I'm less than excited about the next Bible study theme.  On the other hand, I'd certainly miss the camaraderie, the laughter.

The last thing you cooked or ate that was overdone?

Blushing!  Even chocolate-loving Tom couldn't eat my air-fryer cookies.  Pillsbury said, bake at 350* for 12-15 minutes -- but I suppose they meant in a conventional oven.   At only 12, they still came out hard as bricks.

In celebration of hitting Vol. 411 in the weekly Hodgepodge, give us the 411 on something happening in your life in the next 30 days.

I'm celebrating the 50th anniversary of my 21st birthday on St. Paddy's Day.  Cheers!

Insert your own random thought here.

We will have these (senior) moments to remember .....

Happy Hump Day, y'all.
Stay sweet!

Hugs, Myra

  1. Oh, Myra, those memes are classics! And yes, I can certainly hear you about being in an abusive situation at work. You wouldn't think that sort of thing can happen to teachers, but let me assure you, it can and it did. One of the happiest days of my life is when I chose to simply walk away.
    Have a blessed day!

  2. I am living in a abusive situation at work...and I allow it because I like the money. Yep, there it is...as for Markle or Harry, poor entitled rich kids. I better leave it at that. No sympathy from me (no meaning to offend).

Those memes are so funny...and thanks for the laugh love the cookies. I hope you have a beautiful day, friend. smiles (and p.s. I want to be barefoot and or flip flopping wearing).

    1. Crazy what we allow, huh? At the time, I was the 'bread winner'; but more importantly, the only insurance when Tom was undergoing cancer treatments.

  4. right now i am chewing/fretting over the need to call a plumber and who to call. i have past the 50th aniversary of my 26th birtday. Happy Birthday a few days early in case i forget. what i can't get over is how my brain has died and i can't remember anything anymore, like the last thing at bottom of this post, I do the bottle in hand pill at least twice a week wondering if i took it. for real.
I retired at 62 because i could not stand one more day of my work enviroment and the boss I had. she was a queen bitch. so i guess that makes my over the moon the same as yours, been barefoot and retired since Sept 26, 2006. will never forget that date.
this is embassing, the last think overcooked was 2 weeks ago, i like my rye toast crisp, i push the toaster down twice and half way through pop it up. talking to Beau, i noticed the SMELL first and the smoke coming out of the toaster second. I scraped it and ate it. Bob said Why are you EATING that?

    1. LOL on the toast! I used to burn bread on purpose because I liked the char. Were it not for my weekly pill keeper, I'd be just like that cat.

  5. That last quote/picture got to me. I had trouble remembering whether or not I had taken my pills So I started using one of the containers where you put pills for each day of the week. That took care of the problem. The hardest thing ai had to get over was living by myself. When the kids all left home was when I started to write my newsletter and blogging. That helped to get over that problem better than anything else.

    1. Resourceful lady, Pam! As a reader, I'm so glad you did. I, too, would be lost without my daily pill-keeper. Great invention!

  6. LADY, we loved this one. Sitting here discussing it is absolutely fun. WE laughed and laughed at the 50th anniversary! WE went back over our jobs and had to admit even in the military I had ONE terrible boss and it was on my BEST duty station, but as Sherry said, "Our 'bad' jobs never lasted long, because WE followed orders and left."
WE are still giggling about the graphics. Good stuff.
WE have a pretty day here in Florida,

Sending ((HUGS)) to you and the Big Guy!

  7. Early this morning I tried to comment on your blog from my phone and it would not allow it - crazy phone! I love the story of your air fryer cookies - at our house, we call those "hockey pucks"! I love your three memes at the end and I swear I am NOT old yet - hahahaha!

  8. I can relate to you being over the moon about retirement. I've been retired 10 years and still celebrating. Loved the memes and so true.

  9. I agree with Megan too, also Harry loves her and doesn't want what happened to his mother happen to her. I use to love bible study and I miss the camaraderie. Sorry about those cookies. Happy early Birthday wishes to you!

    1. Interesting parallels between she and Diana. I still think Kate is far classier, but who are we really, to know what's what?

  10. OK ... well ... it happened like this ... it was someone else's house we were visiting ... I went to the bathroom and there was already a deposit in the toilet. I flushed. It remained there floating. I flushed again. It was an Olympic swimmer and refused to go. It just swam and winked at me in defiance. I flushed again. No success.

What do I do? I can't leave a note saying "this is not mine!" It's not as if you can disown a deposit, is it?

Well ... I did just that! I went out and said there is a monster of a deposit which does not want to go away. I was told it is their little child who has not yet learnt how to flush the toilet. I was embarrassed.

I WAS EMBARRASSED for something I had not done!!!

    God bless.

  13. I always laugh when I come here, as well as commiserate with you. My last job had some major issues, and I retired by having to report some major issues regarding my boss to the superiors...which was not easy as it was a church and I hated to do that, but it was necessary. I was SO happy to walk away from that, but had mixed emotions just the same as I loved many of the others there. Had some other doozies for bosses in the past too, one was supposedly a close friend, and I should never have allowed myself to get into that position...it didn't turn out good. We are friends again now, but only because we are all retired. Loved your cookie story. Funny. I don't have one of those air fryer cooker thingys, and I don't think I want one. I'm too old fashioned when it comes to cooking. Take care and be happy. Lily wrote to you about my camera. Let me know if you want more info.

    1. Uh-oh, your work 'situation' at the church sounds awkward. How wonderful you and your friend were able to salvage your relationship! Despite being the one who clamored to get the air fryer, Tom enjoys it more so than me. (My go-to has become the Instant Pot.) Please give Lily a big thanks ... and a hug, too!

  14. Thanks for the giggles, Myra!! I still haven't mastered the air-fryer. Sorry you had such a horrid work experience. I didn't watch the interview... kind of over the Royals... but it must have been something! Love you, dear friend!

  15. It's amazing (and disheartening) to realize how much abuse we endure throughout our lives - in one way or another. I remember after my father died, my mom said she finally felt free for the first time in her life.

The last thing I ate that was overdone were some potato pancakes that I burned yesterday.

I can relate to that cat meme. There are many times when I've taken pills (or vitamins) and can't remember if I did five minutes later.

    1. Not for the first time, my heart goes out to your mom. 💜 Abuse or not, his absence had to have been a jolt.

    2. They were married for 56 years - it was indeed a jolt.

  16. Happy early birthday! I too love being retired, and I would be lost without my pill organizer.

  17. You had me chuckling. Those were great! We take an aspirin a day for our heart. I am not a pill popper but I do pop my vitamins and stay relatively healthy. If only I could find something to help my sching knee. Sigh. Yep, I count my Thyroid since I know I have missed one or taken two at least once in my lifetime hahaha. My grand girl Christal was taking it and she starting doing all this healthy eating and exercise and got off the meds. I have taken it for 50 freaking years and I have never understood why I have to take something that is not curing my problem. Weird....
