Just for today, I'm NOT going to dwell on
... DISH Network dropping ABC-TV from their menu
... nor a certain insurance company's reluctance to honor the terms of its home warranty
... even Hurricane Alberto, who pitched a hissy fit in our driveway yesterday morning.
Nope!
Today I'm joining Rebecca Jo's Thankful Thursday klatch. Come on in, won't you? Pour a cup!
Yes. I suppose I over-reacted when I was cuddling little Grace last week and discovered a flea. Then two, three. Upon further inspection, we discovered her twin was also an unwilling host. Toto, I don't think we're in Arizona anymore.
So thankful that our grand-pup's veterinarian was able to see the girls quickly -- and didn't make me feel like an awful dog mommy!
... That our pest control serviceman made time to come out the next day for a touch-up. He never fails to calm my fears; and in fact, seems amused by my revulsion for anything that buzzes or crawls.
... Thankful for blog friends who provided links to keep our grounds relatively free of nasties. Thank you so much, Sandra and Debby!
I'm thankful for good neighbors! Because our driveway was still blocked by debris, Tom had to ferry me to my hair appointment and missed a call. Jacob's voice mail: "I noticed the tree on your wife's car, and I'm coming over with my chain saw." At least it wasn't one of the much bigger trees that line our drive!
Feeling blessed that Tom is developing friendships with members of his RC club. When the weather radio siren went off at 3:00AM he went ahead and got up. It wasn't long before I heard the unmistakable sounds of incoming texts. Another of his buds in nearby Prattville was also awake, monitoring the storm.
(Me, I'm fine staying inside, not needing to socialize with anyone except y'all -- but I've been concerned about Tom getting acclimated.)
Finally!
There's nothing fortunate about the flooding that's occurring around the state ... but I'm enormously thankful my DIL's parents are OK. By the time rescuers were able to reach them by boat, water had risen to the windows and was half-way up the refrigerator! Thank God their dog and cat were also evacuated safely, but it's feared their home, their autos and equipment will become casualties of Rice Creek. Prayers are appreciated!

You do have much to be thankful for, it could have been worse and when you count those blessings it make you remember how wonderful life is. Glad no one was hurt and the fleas are a thing of that past.

DeleteGlad Tom is making friendships in Alabama! Sounds like he is working for a good thing too with the RC Club! Ick about your car, but grateful for the helpful neighbor! Oh woe with the fleas, but good that seems to be getting under control. We didn't have that problem in Montana either; too cold for them! We surely do have a lot to be grateful for, don't we? Hope the insurance company wasn't Geico, they have a great reputation (at least for me) of not paying claims I think they should cover.

No, it's Olde Republic -- a home warranty policy paid as part of the sale. We've been going round and round for 3 weeks now, and I'm considering writing a letter to the Board of Realtors ... public shaming!
Deletethis is so sad about your DIL parents home, we saw a lot of the is in your area on ABC, the one they dropped, and I told Bob OH NO, my friend is right in the thick of it .. glad you are safe and that you had help with the tree on your car... wild clapping for friend in the club, it is important for him to have things to do outside the home and also to make friends. think Venus and Mars.. we are happy like we are, they are not.

DeleteHow awful for your DIL's parents and their home. Water can be so unforgiving when there is nothing to stop it. I always worry about the animals (too) when there is horrible flooding. Hope your driveway is cleared by now and your auto wasn't damaged too badly. Also hope the fleas are gone! Nasty things.
ReplyDeleteNot any significant damage to the car, thank God! Yes, the vet was right when he said they'd all be dead by bedtime. ... but I'm still checking every morning!

ReplyDeleteYes, thankfully my car is fine. My hubby's mad as a hornet tho' at the flooding that's occurred right in our yard today. (I haven't the heart to remind him, THIS is the house HE wanted. lol.)

DeleteFleas. They were a pain, as I recall, when we lived in Florida. Glad your storm damage wasn't worse, but my, I will certainly pray for your DIL's parents. Praise God they are okay, but it's still so sad to think of losing all their things.

DeleteWOW, Myra! Looking around me and I 'AIN'T' got a problem. Hope all is coming out well, yeah fleas do find their way around down south... Terrible about the DIL's parents. but life is worth more than STUFF, that is for sure.

You said it, Jack! Thankfully the water receded before it could suck the house into the creek ... but god only knows what structural damage may have occurred. The vehicles are a total loss.

DeleteEveryone says it could have been worse - but I say it could have been better. I'm sorry that Alberto picked your driveway to vent his wrath - - and to flood your DIL's parent's home. I'm glad everyone is safe.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't get any flooding or wind - only constant rain and thunderstorms. It really is unnerving when you (and me) lived in places where it seldom rained, and then we move to places where the rain/storms never end.
Take care and try to stay dry.

DeleteWelcome to the Deep South, eh? I'm sorry to hear about the storm damage. The amount of rain we've all been seeing is so high, I'm beginning to wonder if we need to start building another ark. (We'll definitely leave the fleas off this time, though!) I hate those buggers. Ticks, too. We had to battle fleas many times when we had dogs, and I foolishly thought that when our only pets were indoor cats, we wouldn't have that issue any more. Wrong! I still have to treat them every month.
