Good morning friends!
This morning I'm humming, "Brown paper packages, tied up with strings ...."

It's been a very long time, but I still recall the excitement I felt each holiday season when Daddy came home bearing a brown paper package tied up with string. Addressed to "Miss Myra" in my uncle's spidery handwriting, I knew it's '4th-class' content was a book I'd cherish.
So, this Wednesday's poser --

I recently finished this collection of good-news short stories and gave it 5 stars. Thanks, Sean for the chuckles ... even the tears. Mostly, thanks for restoring my faith in the goodness of humankind!

Lemme tell you. Sheila told me a few weeks ago to check out Sean of The South's blog. She said, "I think you will like it!"

SO if I was giving a book it would be 'Sean of the South'. As a matter of fact I have already sent a blog entry or two to my entire family.

My new friend Christopher of You Tube fame always says that kindness if free. I like that! We do need to return to being kind to each other. I haven't read either of those books but am adding them to my list! My list will never end. And I can't think of a book I would give to everyone. Isn't that crazy!

DeleteOh gosh...the same book to man, woman and child? I haven't a clue unless we count the Bible. Nothing I've read other than the Bible would translate well for men or children.

ReplyDeleteI'm not really too sure what book I would gift to man, woman, adolescent on my giving list. To an adolescent I would definitely do A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith, but not necessarily it would fit for a man or woman. I would have to say for the man and woman I would call with Jesus Calling, a yearly devotional book. Got it from hubby Christmas 2007 and over 2008 it really impacted me; each day the devotion seemed to be written just for me with what I was dealing with at the time. Considering doing it again in 2018.
Very interesting question to ponder.

DeleteI love the kindness is free and also I am sick of the OPINIONS on TV news. back in the DAY the news was reported as facts, not filled with personal or affiliate opinions. that last book sound good to me
ReplyDeleteWe're so much alike, Sandra! Sad, that what passes for News these days is youngsters' new normal. My granddaughter tells me it's even in the universities. She was afraid to speak out last year for fear of (grades) retribution.

DeleteOne book that tops all the others and tells the greatest Christmas story every told has to be the holy Bible. I did give each member of my family a family Bible one year. It was the kind you could write all the births and deaths in. Like a family tree. It may or may not be everyone's favorite reading, but has the answers to every question, and is the best guide for life.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I recall Grandma Hanson having one of those family Bibles with births and deaths. I'm going to check the hope chest to see if it hasn't endured.

DeleteI always loved getting books as gifts when I was a child. I'm not familiar with either of the books that you listed - but I have complete faith in your literary tastes. I'll put them on my reading list.

The Holy Bible, that would be my choice! My late father-in-law always said, if people read the bible from cover to cover they would know how to do every single thing that life tosses our way. It is always and will always be the number one book for me! Love and Hugs
