Has anyone read Corrie ten Boom's The Hiding Place?
Towards the conclusion of today's service Pastor Janet relayed a bit of her story. Sure, I'd heard ten Boom's name, but not her story. Glad I wasn't the only one sitting there with tears on her cheeks.
Concerned.
I learned son's MRI revealed not one, but two torn ligaments in his shoulder. Because he's self-employed, a post-surgery 12-week rehab is "out of the question" (his words). 'Still waiting on doctor's alternative recommendations.
Watching
At the time I began these notes, we were watching opening ceremonies from Talladega. I'm not a big fan, but NASCAR's unabashed display of patriotism never fails to move me.

Miss Virginia's story.
At a recent estate sale I found this super soft, roomy purse (compartments galore!) … and boots that look like they've never been worn.
Total $3.00!
When I got home I began examining the purse. In addition to random toothpicks and peppermint candies there was a sweet little flag lapel pin. Also, this carefully preserved 'fortune.'
'Not sure why I've hung onto this. Sometimes my curiosity gets the better of me.
Outside my window
A few days ago we woke up to 53-degrees, and I spotted this on my granddaughter's Facebook page:

(3) 8 oz blocks of Philadelphia cream cheese
(1) 8 oz bag of shredded sharp cheddar
(1) 8 oz bag of shredded Monterrey
(1) 16oz bottle ranch

Crock pot for 90-120 Min's on high.

I'm lucky; I'll get to see September here and October on Facebook :) Ouch with your son and the torn ligaments. I hope something that feasibly be done sans surgery to help him function the best he can. What great finds at the estate sell! Interesting fortune too, I'd want to know if good things did come to her (but then I really don't believe in fortune cookies, LOL :)

DeleteIt is 33* here in Kansas and we have snow on the ground! And I am cussing. Really it won't stay around for long. We were just 90* a few days ago. I liked both the pictures and would have had a hard time picking. I am so hard on my own pictures. I told my son recently that he didn't need to even worry about a funeral when I died. Just cremate me and spread my ashes (along with Richard's if I don't get that done soon). Love the sounds of that recipe. I will have to make it soon! Love the picture of the fisherman. I have been doing some of that reflecting myself lately!

Deletesorry to hear about the MRI, hope there is something else to be done. prayers for your son. the purse and boots are an amazing deal. wow! they both look like new. I nearly expired from shock reading the recipe.. one bottle of ranch has over 5000 grms of sodium .. not counting the fat. I tried not to say this but 2 years of counting carbs/calories/fat and salt made me do it... when you make it only eat 2 bites
ReplyDeleteNo, I'm glad you did (say this). Sodium is my downfall, for sure. I'll probably make it for our church's next pot-luck … that way, I won't be tempted to eat too much.

DeleteI've read a lot about Corrie ten Boom but haven't read her book, but it's time I did. Your son will be in my prayers. Nothing to put off or mess with for sure. The dip does sound wonderful, but I'd have to cut back on the heat. Do they make mild hot sauce? Estate sales are wonderful! Glad you found some good buys. Here there is no end to festivals. Hope you find some near you soon! Happy Monday !
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday to you, as well! I've never tried Frank's Hot, but would substitute a bit of Hatch chili. Yes, there's canned chilis in the supermarkets in mild, medium and hot. Not as good as the fresh Hatch, but certainly more economical.
DeleteSo sorry to hear about your sons shoulder. My sister in law is having surgery on November 12th. They told her the recovery is 9 months. Obviously your son needs to have it done. I will pray for him. That's a nice fortune. That dip sounds yummy and I love the reflection photo.

I liked both selfies so am glad they both won a place of honor!! I will look up Corrie. Have heard of the name but not the story. Great find for $3.00!! Wow. Nice fortune too! Your grand's message is cute!! Seems like that chicken dip recipe would feed a crowd!! Yummy stuff! That's a great photo of the fisherman. Don't we all feel like that? I do. Loved your post, Myra!! ReplyDeleteWishihg (praying) for the son's best. I have tried to explain 'self-employed' reasoning to people who are sure YOU are getting rich while others WORK! LOL I say but what if I am sick? What if my last idea wasn't so good and I go broke, lose my trucks and house. The worker goes down the street and gets another job. The self employed guy puts it all on the line, and i wish them the best.

ReplyDeleteYES, I've read "The Hiding Place." I even blogged about Corrie ten Boom once, in particular about how she was grateful for the terrible flea infestation in her tent. It was so terrible, the guards wouldn't even enter it... which enabled her to lead a Bible study in there.
Ouch! I'm so sorry to hear about your son's torn ligaments. I hope the doctor can offer him something to ease the pain. We bought some hemp-based pain cream at a fair a couple weeks ago, and my husband swears it gives him instantaneous relief from the arthritis in his knees. (I haven't tried it yet... I'm still using Blue Emu.) Anyhow, this stuff contains no THC and is currently legal all over the country. (Until the legislators change it...) Might be worth a shot.
Wow! That's quite a deal you got on those boots and bag! Good for you.

What a story (about those fleas)! I can't wait to learn more. Because I doubt he'd jeopardize his status with the V.A. I'm going to try and locate that pain cream on line. Sounds like a better alternative than all the drugs. Thanks, Susan!
DeleteI loved The Hiding Place and have read it more than once. I also have read other books by Corrie and she is one of my heroes. I love that Buffalo dip and it's true, you can get carried away with it.
